I have seen requests for Live Journal codes (?) on the boards previously, but apparently Live Journal is accepting new accounts without the code. Is this new or do you get some benefit from receiving a code from an existing user?
|
LJ got rid of its invite code system on December 12th, so that no one needs an invite code to start a journal. IIRC, invite codes were originally introduced to prevent abuse, since a lot of people started up journals solely to harass other users.
Since there are no codes anymore, you can't give them out; ergo, there are no benefits for getting a code from an existing user.

Do most of you have a paid account (or just a free account) and is there a significant benefit from paying the $12.00/year for the upgraded account?
|
I have a paid account (my LJ name is "auster", in case anyone's interested, but I only talk about Harry Potter, Johnny Depp and slash fiction

), and I got it mostly because I wanted to create my own custom layout (and my LJ looks very pretty now).
It's $25 a year, by the way, but I thought it was worth it. Paid users can do a lot of things free users can't, and there's a nice
FAQ on the subject (yes, referencing a FAQ is compulsory to me -- I do LJ support).
Most people seem perfectly happy with a free account, although a lot of my friends upgraded because paid users can buy extra user pictures. Free users can only have three; paid users get fifteen with the option to upgrade to fifty.
Hope this helps
