The Musical Box!

For any reformed Prog-rock nerds out there, I urge you to dust off your flower masks and fox heads and see The Musical Box, a Peter Gabriel-era Genesis tribute band that has done PhD-quality research into recreating the experience of an early 1970s Genesis concert. The music and singing is dead-on (actually, slightly better playing than the original live shows, of which I've heard bootlegs), the costumes, stage set, slides, lighting cues, and lead-singer antics are identical, and, freakiest of all, the drummer looks and sings just like Phil Collins!

I saw them for the first time this past Thursday. They're playing a few shows in NY, NJ, the Midwest, Canada, and then moving on to Europe.

Great fun. Quite unbelievable. And you'll see people in the audience even nerdier than yourself.

Thanks for the heads up. Saw your post, immediately bought tickets to see 'em in Milwaukee.

I've been wanting to see this band for a long time, but I've been reluctant to drive all the way to Quebec. Milwaukee is way doable. Can't wait. I'm excited that they're presenting the "Selling England by the Pound" show, as well. "The Lamb" is cool, but I have a special fondness for SEBTP.

The rumor is that they're retiring SEBTP after this tour, so that they can focus on a big Lamb tour.

Well, saw them in Milwaukee at the Pabst Theatre Wednesday night. One of the coolest shows I've ever seen. Now I understand what Mike Rutherford was talking about when he remarked that he thought these guys played the show better than Genesis did. Everything was note-perfect. Quite a thrill.

I probably would've missed it if I hadn't seen your post. Thanks again.
