Argh! I’m trying to help myself here, but I’m not finding anything… I believe this may be a problem with cookies and certainly a user issue. But it’s new and I can’t fix it by the recommended method. Help.
Only for the last two days, I’ve been getting logged off pretty frequently. I’ve reviewed this thread, but I but I don’t see what it says I should see:
In User CP/Edit Options, I see: Login & Privacy - Set vCard options only (check to allow) Messaging & Notification - Receive email / Default Thread Subscription Mode Thread Display Options - Visible Post Elements / Thread Display Mode / # of Post Displayed / Default Thread Age Cut-off Date & Time Options - Time Zone / Start of the Week Miscellaneous Options - Message Editor Interface
I don’t see Automatically login when you return to the site? / Browse board with cookies?
Further, when I log-in again, I have Remember me? checked, but it comes up blank everytime (no cookie set).
I wonder whether I caused the problem by having multiple windows open simultaneously for different SDMB threads/forums and leaving them open indefinitely. But this has never been a problem before now.

That about it? Ok, fight my ignorance, puh-lease! :o

Not sure exactly why you’re having problems, but it does sound like a cookie issue.
Unfortunately, I have zero experience with XP, so I’m not sure how to advise you.
I’m afraid I’m going to have to ask our Teeming Millions to help out here, for both of us.
Dopers? How does she get this resolved? Normally I would be sending her to check her browser settings and maybe delete cookies and start over again, but dunno about with XP.
The very first thing to try when you suspect a cookie issue is to clear them. It’s also a good idea to clear your internet cache at the same time. To do this in IE 6.0 (and most other versions of IE), click Tools > Internet Options. Click the Delete Cookies button, then when that’s done, click the Delete Files button right next to it. Note that if you have a large cache, this could take several minutes. Once this process is complete, close ALL open instances of IE before you do anything else, then relaunch it. Let us know if this works. If not, we’ll try a few other things.
For all flavors of Windows, when in doubt… reboot!
If that doesn’t work, then try clearing cache+files, as Q.E.D. described, and then reboot.
Seriously - rebooting will often close down all kinds of TSR’s and DLL’s that need to be re-run and aren’t until you reboot… so this isn’t just “voodoo”. Try it.
Thanks to all for your input. Okay, here’s where I am.
I have deleted my cookies and temp files via IE Options (so sad, but oh well). I have rebooted and logged back in. Now, I’m logging out automatically after a period of time (15 minutes, I’m guessing). It’s still not remembering me either.
So now I want to change the setting to Automatically login when you return to the site? (uses cookies) (yes) and
Browse board with cookies? (yes)
Note, that Sticky post fix doesn’t seem to apply to me, for some reason.
Try changing you security permissions to Accept All Cookies, just to see if it helps. Also, be sure you have all the latest updates and patches for both XP and IE, from Microsoft’s website.
