Survivor 10/21: Hog Tied

I know, I know. A full day early is a little soon to be throwing up the thread about this week’s episode, but I’ve stumbled upon some news that’s too interesting to keep to myself.

As with other spoilery-type stuff, I’ll bump it low for those thread drive-by folks can’t accidentally spoil themselves.

If you have no willpower, this may prove interesting.
Survivor News’s Snewser has not only posted this week’s boot, but also the boots for the next few weeks.

Having stumbled last week in flubbing the Travis boot pick, Snewser maintains that this is the week for real estate agent Lisa Keiffer to take the long walk. This is the same pick as last week, so he’s probably more sure of it this time. Moreover, Snewser has already given himself a checkmark in the “confirmed” column, leading me to believe there’s better than a 95% chance it’s going to happen.

Next week, on an episode entitled “Anger, Threats, Tears … & Coffee”, some of you will be unhappy to hear that it’s everybody’s favorite mechanical bull operator John Kenney that heads off to the Loser Lodge. I know some of you were pulling for him to go further, so my apologies.

In the following week, in an episode whose title has not yet been revealed, the projected boot will be youth mentor and all-around hottie Julie Berry. If past Survivor contests are any indication, she will be the last Survivor to not make the jury.

No word as of yet about the merge – however, by this episode we will have seen 9 Survivors sent home, and 9 left, so it’s likely the merge will happen in this episode.
Interesting developments afoot. I hope at least one of those is incorrect, but the man is very rarely wrong.

Hey it’s only Wednesday!

I have no will power, I read the spolier. :frowning:

Can you give a link to this? I just checked Snewser’s site, and all I can find is the check mark, none of the other details you provided. I like his info, but I find his site hard to navigate…

Ask and ye shall receive.

:::: bump back to page one ::::

You were wrong (or, rather, your source waswrong) last week, but I’m still not reading the spoiler.
Didn’t you predict Lisa or LeeAnn, and it was actually Bubba?

Sadly, yes. The prediction was Lisa.

Since you haven’t read the spoiler box, this is all I will say about it.

Thank you!
But apparently, I am either a. up against some firewall snafu 2. a dumbass. I see the check against Lisa’s name, but no other checks for further bootees.

I’m leaning towards 2. :smack:

My theory on that is:
John and Julie are confirmed to not have made the jury, so they’re obviously the final two boots prior to jury selection. Snewser knows this, so isn’t particularly afraid to go out on a limb and put weeks behind them. However, since they’re not confirmed, no checks yet.

The checks only appear when Snewser has an absolute confirmation of a boot. I haven’t seen this happen prior to an episode before now.
Is it me, or is this the most boring season of Survivor ever? I actually remembered to watch tonight, but I couldn’t care less who stays or goes. I don’t even know most of their names at this point. Not a single interesting person in the bunch.

Feh.

I know I’ve said this before, but damn, there sure are a lot of people stopping by to comment on how boring this year’s crop is.

Not that I disagree much.

But still, stick around until after the merge. That’s traditionally when Survivor starts to spend more time on personal relationships and backstories, and it usually picks up excitement-wise.

So, you think Julie is angling for a Playboy spread?

And Rory is still annoying as h-e-doublehockeysticks, but he’s playin’ the game. I enjoyed him this episode. Though I wish he’d quit it with the slavery metaphors. “Slaving around camp,” “Up on the auction block…” unless…he’s doing it on purpose, to try and make the women feel too guilty to vote for him. Interesting.

The challenges were better this time. Pigs and mud? Always fun. And I thought the immunity challenge was at least fairly interesting.

Honestly, I don’t think the merge is going to help one iota. These people are just flat out dull. I’ve watched every season except the first one, and I can’t ever recall it being this boring, even in the beginning. There were seasons where I hated everyone and couldn’t have cared less who won, but at least the people were distinct enough for me to attach names to my hatred. This season…I can’t even be bothered to hate anyone…well, except for Mark Burnett for casting a bunch of total duds.

I’m a Jenny-Come-Lately to the SURVIVOR phenomenon, so I don’t have a lot to compare this bunch to, but I think Twila is kind of interesting. And I like the way Rory is playing this game. He’s got a lot more going on upstairs than some of the bimbos on the island.

I didn’t like Lisa, but I think Ami over-reacted to what she said. Plus Lisa was pretty strong.

If it were said in a situation like this, on a message board, or a casual conversation in a bar, I would agree. Overreaction. But when a million dollars is on the line, and voting blocs can build from sheer momentum alone, I think the reaction was prudent.

I’m usually wrong on these things and I don’t read the spoilers, but I’ll stick my neck out and make some personal observations.

I think Ami’s on a power trip. She realized how much she was controlling opinion in Yasur and moved against Lisa just because she could. It seemed to me that she used the slightest little provocation to turn against her, and part of her reason was to prove to the others that Scout was just a figurehead - Ami forced the vote against Lisa despite Scout’s disapproval. Sooner or later this little power trip is going to backfire on her, unless the rest of the women are really total idiots like they seem to be.

Twila, on the other hand, might be doing well in setting herself up with the older guys.

Personally, I kind of liked this episode. I loved watching those girls trying to catch pigs without getting dirty, and Ami cuddling the pig and saying “Shhhh, shhhh!” after she caught it was a riot.

Ami is a paranoid nutcase. She’s starting to scare me. I’m beginning to get one of those “intense overreacting psycho” vibes off of her.

Let’s just say that if I were stuck on an island with her and a machete, I’d be scared…

I thought they were going to vote out Eliza for sure. Not Lisa, the strongest woman (and coolest one, IMHO). And I didn’t think Rory was going to get any votes. I was totally taken by surprise by the TC, and I was disappointed.

Yasur deserves to lose.

No, no, no. She’s nowhere near “Matt from Survivor: Amazon” psycho. I just think she’s become a bit paranoid since the girl power team was broken up with the switcheroo.

Rory is delusional. Rory, you didn’t do jackshit to save your ass. Your “manipulations” were nothing more than blind luck. Repeat after me: You are not in control - you are a pawn. These girls can get rid of you whenever they want, and you’re only around because you’re marginally useful.
