Spoilers for those that want them. A big black tempt-you box for those that don’t. I’ll skip a few lines to prevent them from showing up on the hover-over Board feature.
Well, this is the week of the rumored “tribal shakeup.” Much speculation has been put forth on who will end up with what tribe, but people with a lot more free time than I have analyzed the frames, and come up with this conclusion:
(New) Yasur: Ami, Eliza, Leanne, Lisa, Rory
(New) Lopevi: Chris, John K., Sarge, Twila
Unknown at this time: Chad, Julie, Scout, Travis
I for one thank Og for this, since tribes made up of all-one-sex seem to make for really boring television. Surprised MB didn’t learn this from Survivor: Amazon.
This week’s boot, however, shouldn’t shock many. Speculation seems to favor Lisa, the 44 year-old Real Estate agent that tried to play both sides of the all-female Yasur tribe. Off to the Loser Lodge, woman. The “low-radar” approach only works if you don’t peeve everybody in the process.
This season I have a problem, I am totally uninterested in what happens or who it happens to. Every other season I’ve pulled for one team or another to win but now I don’t care. When people get voted off I have no reaction. My wife says it will get more interesting as we learn more about the people and I hope she is right. For the first time, I’m thinking of not finishing the season. Anyone else having this problem?
I don’t think they’re merging - the previews showed Jeff telling them to take off their buffs. This looks like the mix-'em-up week.
I just hope they do a better job than they did last year, when only Amber got moved.
I’m kinda disappointed the mixup is upon us already. I really wanted to see the old guys discover how dumb their “plan” was. But I am thankful that Cute Mechanical Bull Operator might get spared if the tribes shuffle.
I am so excited to see this earthquake … I think I have some sort of problem.
But I DIDN’T read the spoiler, Chastain! Yet, of course.
Boy, if we ever needed solid evidence that people are bored with this season, we now have some. It’s two hours after the end of Survivor, and this thread has sunk to the second page of Cafe Society!
Well, I don’t have a whole lot to say about it. Even I was bored with this one.
But I will say that Lisa made an extremely smart move to choose the new Yasur. At first I was surprised she chose them–who would want to hang out with Rory, Eliza, et. al.? But then I realized–by choosing that team, she puts herself in a situation where she is in very low danger of getting voted out herself. There are several members of that team that people have been gunning for all along, and she has a lot of goodwill from the team because she chose them. Even if they lose every immunity challenge until the merge, she’s likely to stay in the game. She’s a smart one.
5 weeks in and even an earquake can’t make this season exciting. Is this a sign that maybe there have been too many survivors? Can a show whose entertainment value is dependant on the cast jump the shark? Or it a just a matter of the casting people getting it right next time?
I quit stopped watching Survivor about three episodes into the first series, when I decided that in terms of actual survival skills I could kick the ass of everyone on the show. Anyway, why are they attempting to make an earthquake in the open into such a big deal? I’d only be impresses/worried if there was lava erupting.
I think the problem this season is that these people have the personalities of driftwood. None of them are standing out and the age/gender thing has been done to death. You know the tribes will split along age lines and that even after the switch the old tribemates will stick together.
I’ll probably keep watching, but only because there’s nothing else on at the same time I want to watch. I was never really into Survivor anyway, I didn’t see it until a couple of seasons ago, and I’m thinking they ought to let it go after this one.
Interesting. What looked on the surface as a disaster for the women, is likely to make them winners after the merge.
That is, Lopevi (4 men, 2 women) won tonight, and will likely continue to win. Which means most likely that Yasur will kick out Rory and only then a women. If Yasur manages to win one of the next two, it’ll just mean the woman kicked out will come from Lopevi instead of Yasur, not affecting the counts.
If they merge at 10 players (hasn’t that been the magic number in the past?), the count is almost certain to be 4 men, 6 women. Assuming that players remain true to their original tribes, Sarge & co. will be in for it.
Contrariwise, if the guys at Lopevi figure it out, they ought to throw the next two ICs so they can insure that two women go, and thus go to merge with even numbers.
Before the switch, I’d give it to the women for playing it smart. They were voting out the largest sources of friction in their tribe. Voting out Dolly made sense because she would not commit and figured she held all the cards.
The men have been playing badly and I doubt it will improve. From the first tribal council they started voting off their strongest members. I think the problem is that the contestants have seen so many seasons of Suvivor that they have gone beyond a basic strategy and now are overthinking the game. The men were thinking about the end of the game from the first day. Great way to get your butt kicked. With the switch, I expect the men to be gone fast.
I, too, am finding this season of Survivor incredibly dull so far. For the first time, I don’t have a favorite team and no one is really standing out as someone to root for or hate. I don’t think the fault is all with the casting though. The most irritating factor of this season is that they keep thowing in “twists” every week, so the game is more luck now and less strategy.
I think a couple of them will decide to keep Rory around, if only to carry wood, and for insurance in case the next couple of Challenges are physical ones.
That said, I bet the next IC is a puzzle-type challenge, to give Yasur a chance.
Jeff said something cryptic at TC, about, “If there is a merge…” so who knows when and if they’ll merge this time. They might not merge at all until one team is down to two or three players.
I’m with Mirth. There are too many twists this time, and it makes luck too much of a deciding factor.
what was up with Bubba signalling/talking to the other guy?? (Sorry, i still don’t know anyones names) What could have been gained by that? If there’s a merge, it’s a long ways off and any scheming won’t work-especially when you’re on DIFFERENT TEAMS!
I’m with Draelin, the guys were saved with the shake-up. THey would have gone down so fast if it was women vs fat old men. Seems Twila was saved too, she can ‘kick it’ with the guys now.
