I have a doctor’s appointment on Wednesday morning (earliest they could get me in), so meanwhile, tell me what’s wrong.
First, I’ve been trying to get pregnant. My last period was October 18th. I’ve taken about 16,000 home pregnancy tests and they all come out negative. But I feel pregnant…tired, queasy (threw up a couple times), weird indigestion I had with previous pregnancies. I don’t have other pregnancy symptoms though - no peeing every 2 seconds, no sore breasts. I have had some cramping, but that’s gone away. I’ve had no spotting or anything like that.
I have a history of miscarriages, but during my last pregnancy, my doctor had me take a low-dose aspirin in order to avoid miscarriage. I carried to term. I have been taking the low-dose aspirin daily since then, on my doctor’s advice. I also take a woman’s daily vitamin that contains 400 mcg of folic acid. I’m on no other medication.
So, obviously, my concern is that I’ve had a missed miscarriage. Why, though, would I be experiencing pregnancy symptoms still? Is it possible that all those tests were wrong? (Realistically, I’ve probably done the home test thing about 10 times in the past few weeks). Or, do you think I have something completely unrelated? That would be bizarre. What sorts of things cause a missed period, pregnancy symptoms, but aren’t pregnancy?
IANA doctor, but couldn’t an ectopic pregnancy result in suppressed pregnancy symptoms?
Alternatively, some of your symptoms could be psychosomatic.
Or maybe you’re pregnant and your test result was wrong. This happened to my friend in March. After STILL not getting her period, she took another one and whoops, what do you know…she delivered her baby about two weeks ago.
Ectopic pregnancies CAN be painful - it’s not as a pre-requisite. I have had numerous cysts in that general area, which according to my doctor should have caused me so much pain I shouldn’t be able to function, but I felt nothing. Not everyone is wired the same.
All pregnancy tests are not equal. Some are more sensitive than others. Try using one of the ones that claims it works before your period is even due (up to 4 days before is there tag line) and see if that one comes out negative.
Could be a missed miscarriage that hasn’t completely cleared your system. There could be enough left of the pregnancy tissue that it’s causing your symptoms, but not enough to show up on a pregnancy test. Might clear with your next cycle, if that’s the case. I’ve heard there is a lot of pain involved with ectopic pregnancies, but not until there’s enough growth to cause it. Not sure how long that would be though. I had two early miscarriages, both were blighted ovums, essentially an empty sac in which no embryo developed. But if I recall correctly, I did get a positive test on both. Then the numbers kept dropping and it was clear (along with ultrasounds) the pregnancy wasn’t viable. The first one cleared on its own. The second one did not (pregnancy blood tests, although very low, continued to come back positive and I kept having bleeding and cramping) and I had to have a D&C.
With standard disclaimer, IANAD or Nurse and am not attempting to dispense medical advice.
I know it’s hard to wait to find out on these things. Hope things turn out ok for you.
How long has this been going on? If it’s only been a week or so, that sounds exactly like the gastrointestinal bug that’s been going around where I live. I can finally keep some food down, thank goodness.
I’ve had the queasiness and tiredness for a few weeks now (two? two and a half?) I don’t think it’s the flu, because it’s not that bad. Just, you know, sort of car sickness-like, with the occasional need to stick my head over the toilet. Plus, there’s the missed period. I’ve never been late, except when I’ve been pregnant.
Thinks2Much, I’ve tried a couple different brands of test, including one that said it could be effective 5 days before a missed period. Still negative.
I hope this turns out to be nothing or some minor infection, but if it’s a miscarriage (or an ectopic pregnancy), I’ll be okay. At this stage of the game, it would be much easier to cope with than it was last time at 12 weeks.
