3rd Annual SDMB Oscar Prediction Contest!

Hey there movie fans and award-season junkies, here we are again with

The 3rd Annual SDMB Academy Award Prediction Contest* (with real prizes!)*

How to Play: Simply guess the winners of each of the 24 Academy Award categories. You can do so by:

(1) Going to Oscar.com and joining the Doper group in the Prediction Contest there. Our group is Cecil’s Kids and the password is sdmb. You’ll need to register at the website.
(2) If you don’t want to register at the website, go ahead and post your predictions here instead. However, your prediction post in this thread will be FINAL–no edits or revisions allowed (you are free to edit your entry if you register at the Oscar website). For a full slate of nominees, also go to Oscar.com. No posts will be considered after 5:00 PST, Sunday, February 27.

Should there be a tie, the correct number of predictions in the following categories will determine the winner: Screenplay (Original & Adapted), Music (Score & Song), Documentary (Feature & Short).

And, just like last year, I’ll personally provide the prize to the winner (though I’ll also be playing).

Good Luck Everyone!

sheesh. I spent all that time making my selections, hit submit and got:

This site is temporarily too busy to process your request. Please try again later.

I got that, resubmitted immediately, and got straight in.

Plus, you can always go back and edit your choices later.

Thanks for signing up!

Done.

Thanks for hosting! Good luck to all participants!

Thanks – I was just wondering when my annual opportunity to embarrass myself would be coming up…

The only one I care about is The Incredibles for best Animated Movie.

Anything else, and there will be hell to pay…

I haven’t scored a single point in the SDMB Death Pool in two years. That means I sweep here, right?

Does anyone mind if I post my picks here? (I’ve already entered them at Oscars.com.) That way, if anyone wants to call me an ignorant cretin, they don’t have to go back and forth between websites to back up their argument.

An explanatory note: I’ve only seen a few of these movies. In some categories (like film editing and sound mixing) I truly am an ignorant cretin, and probably can’t tell the difference between a movie that does it well and one that does it badly. I’ve never even heard of most of the short subjects and documentaries, except “Super Size Me,” which I certainly didn’t think was good enough to win an Oscar so I didn’t vote for it.

Oh, and I’m really sorry that Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow didn’t get a nomination for visual effects or costumes. That’s all.

Blissfully ignorant of more than half the films up for Oscar nods, I’ll have at it anyway. My picks are up, sans selections for short subject and documatary, which I’ll have to research a bit before I decide. Cheers.

There must be some mistake here. I can’t find any of Ben Stein’s performances on the list of nominations.

Any guess what the prize will be this year? Will it be a CD as it was last year? Perhaps the soundtrack to Ray would be nice, or maybe a DVD of one of the nominated films. Just sayin’…

The prize will always be a CD soundtrack–usually of an older film, but still one related (somehow) to that particular year’s ceremony. I haven’t decided yet (and usually keep it a surprise anyway. )

And Capt. L. Murdoch–alas! Stein didn’t have any feature film appearances this year. This naturally explains the omission. :stuck_out_tongue:

Bumpity Bump.

About a week-and-a-half remaining. You can’t win if you don’t play!

My picks are up. Had to make random choices for the obscure ones. We can still make changes until Oscar day, right?

Yeah, you can make as many changes you want on the Oscar.com site. Thanks for playing!

Come one come all! Less than a week remaining! There are still few enough people signed up that your chances of winning a free film music CD are still very very good!

Thanks 42fish. The official AMPAS site often takes a couple of attempts, but is usually easy to get into after a couple of tries.

Still, your predix are duly noted.

My prediction: Chris Rock will crack a joke that will offend a whole bunch of people.

But don’t count on it being only the Right that is offended…
