Have you renewed your SDMB membership yet? After deep consideration, weighing all the options (yeah, right) I clicked on “subscribe” and forked over my $7.48 to those bean-counters at the Chi Reader for another year of fun, frivolity and philosophy.
Such a feeling came over me…wait, it’s gone. Whew! What a relief!
I was so inspired, but being a newbie, had nothing here to renew. Thankfully, in today’s mail, came an offer to renew my Sam’s Club membership. Although I haven’t bulk bought in a couple years, I joined the renewal bandwagon, and did the deed.
I believe what Astro is referring to by “Private Messaging” is the ability to send someone a message from within the SDMB, which is a great deal more convenient than having to log on to an outside instant messaging service, if a member even uses one.
On more than one occasion, I have found myself wanting to ask a member something, only I didn’t use the same IM program they did (or they didn’t use one at all), and didn’t want to e-mail them outright for fear it would be deleted or end up in their junk mail folder. Having the Private Message feature would allow members to correspond more readily, and I feel it would foster more of a sense of community within the SDMB. According to my rough calcs, at the average rate you post, astro, your cost per post is .3 cents. And compared to a smoke-pack or a six-pack, it lasts longer. I know one must have one’s priorities, but such a deal!
