Yaknow, I normally don’t go for animated smilies (being over 18 and all…), but that wall one… yeah I could see that one getting used around these parts.
My vote is still:
Add Pukey and Sobbing, change the bj-giving embarassed smilie to a blushing one.
We are still awaiting a server upgrade. That comes before anything else.
I do not know when that will happen but pending that, no changes.
For all of me no changes at all. I just find them sort of dull and pointless.
Due to copyright concerns, the Board has only added smilies made by SDMB members, who explicitly give permission for their use. We’ve never used smilies from another board.
Also, there are enough people here who hate animated smilies, including enough of the Powers that Be, that I think it’s safe to say we’ll never see animated smilies here.

Whatever you sent (presumably smiley submissions) didn’t get through, but it doesn’t much matter, since I’d be the wrong person to send them to, anyway, even if the Powers that Be were accepting any at the moment. I haven’t had anything to do with the actual operation of the Board for some years now; I was just saying what the policy was in the past when we added new smilies, and which I imagine would also be the policy for any new additions.

One question please, if I may. I have no interest one way or another about smilies, but I’m curious to know why we can’t have any more changes until the new server upgrade. I’m really quite the dunce when it comes to technical/computer related things, so perhaps the answer is obvious. However, it would seem to me that simply adding something as insignificant as a new smiley, wouldn’t be too much trouble, if at all. Say it doesn’t appear on the same level as changing (pulling something nonsensical outta my ass) forum design or whatever. Or, as usual, am I way off base and dense here?

Any customized changes are lost in a version upgrade. I would assume Jerry does not want to do the work twice.
Remember the last upgrade, when we reverted to the horrible new default smilies? For about three days, till the hue and cry grew overwhelming.
If you’re taking requests, please remove some instead. Preferably all of them.

I really don’t want to turn this into a debate - I think the answer is simple - if you don’t like them, don’t use them. A lot of people don’t. I like them and have learned how to use them sparingly. What we need is to teach those who abuse them how to be more selective. Some of of feel that a judiciously placed smilie can drive a point
home?
