Hugh Laurie just won for best actor in a TV drama – lovely speech. The speeches are so much funnier at the Golden Globes.

Laurie’s speech was good, but last year’s – where, in the interest of time, he produced three slips of paper from his pocket and thanked only the people whose names were written on them – was more inventive.
I dunno … Dolce and Gabbana acceptance speech? I laughed.
Oh, so did I. But then when he headed into the ritualistic laundry list of people to be thanked, I couldn’t help but remember how he avoided doing that last year. He thanked, I believe, the hairdresser, someone else I can’t remember, and his agent (whereupon he did a double-take, looked at the slip of paper, and said, “This is not my handwriting”).
Yeah, I remember that. It was a classic bit.
Back to tonight – I’m glad Eddie Murphy won. He totally deserved it. (Even if his speech was totally lame.)
Yay for Ugly Betty!
Cameron Diaz. The hair, the dress. WTF?
I forgot this was on!
Hurray for Dreamgirls, I love that Murphy and Hudson scored.
Gah, I really dislike Dreamgirls. I hope this is no indication as to what gets nominated/wins come Oscar time.
Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat) (Paraphrasing):
"While making the movie I saw great people in America, but I also I saw a very dark side of America…
The anus of my co-star!
… I though then… I better get an award for this!!!
Helen Mirren and her films had a pretty good night, huh? Other than that, the awards seemed to be spread out among other films pretty well. I don’t think you can make many conclusions about the Oscars based on tonight, except that Mirren is probably a very good bet.
Damn! Jessica Biel gets hotter every time I see her. And I know opinions vary a lot on her, but I thought Drew Barrymore looked exceptionally pretty tonight. Oh, and Kate Winslet looked stunning, too.
I’m not much of a Warren Beatty fan, but Tom Hanks speech about him was the best part of the show, IMO.
The Governator was pretty lame (pun intended). I can’t believe he used the “We’ll be back” line.
Is there any way I can see video of this?!
Michael C Hall’s not winning for Dexter is a travesty.
I think all anuses look pretty much the same.
Way to go for Helen Mirren! A pair of awards for her pair of queens. Excellent work.
Been watching Sacha Baron Cohen for awhile now, but this is the first time I had ever seen him not in character. What a good looking guy! Loved his acceptance speech.
I’ve never seen Sacha Baron Cohen out of character, either. Frankly, I was really surprised that he came to the show out of character. I fully expected to see Borat there. Maybe he’s preparing for the next movie (Bruno, I believe).
Smartass.
I meant the acceptance.
Three cheers for America Ferrara! And a champagne salute and a doffed hat to Forest Whitaker, for utterly deserving his award.
I love Hugh Laurie (also known as God, when he’s not having a day off). I imagine Sacha Baron Cohen would be grateful to be finally out of character–having to do so many interviews and articles in character, constantly, must have been exhausting…
And* Babel* wins!
Any other thoughts I had were distracted by Salma Hayek’s ample cleavage. Sorry. stares some more
SBC claimed that the only reason he did not come as Borat was that he mistakenly shaved off his mustache a while back- not sure if he was joking though. Glad that people got to see how cool and suave he really is.
