The Golden Globes

My favorite awards ceremony is on tonight – a preview of the Oscars, celebrates both TV and movies (which is nice, since I watch both), and people generally tend to be having more fun than most (must be the booze).

Anyone else going to be watching?

I would, but I don’t have a TV. I wish it were shown online. If anyone’s watching at their computers with a TV nearby, would you please post the winners as they’re announced? And if something interesting happens, please explain what happened. No snark intended, but a single line of “Wow, that was funny/cool/strange/horrible.” does no good for those poor saps (like me) who have no idea what just happened.

Thanks in advance!

My cooking club meets every year for it. We have a great time ragging on everyone and oh yeah, seeing what wins…

This feed from a Spanish(?) Portuguese(?) station is showing the pre-show. It looks terrible and is being dubbed, but if they go on to show the Golden Globes itself, it’s better than nothing.

This is allegedly the list of what awards will be presented when, and who will present them. I’ll put it in spoilers in case people like to be surprised at the order of what’s presented.

There are so many award shows they become meaningless. At least, to me.

Not me, because there are a lot of good/great movies/performances that get needed attention.

This link looks much better and it’s not dubbed! I hope they go on to show the complete Globes.

YES, looks like they are!

Best Supporting Actress: Kate Winslet, The Reader

So we can proceed straight to snark without explaining what we’re snarking about?

I’m watching the red carpet special, and Drew Barrymore is on. It seems she has a little silver tongue stud. Who is she dating? Who is the lucky guy or girl?

Ha, sure.

Btw, here were the nominations (* indicates winner):

Best Performance by an Actress In A Supporting Role in a Motion Picture

Amy Adams – Doubt

Penélope Cruz – Vicky Cristina Barcelona

Viola Davis – Doubt

Marisa Tomei – The Wrestler

  • Kate Winslet – The Reader
And the category now, Sting presenting:

“Down To Earth” – Wall-E
Music By: Peter Gabriel and Thomas Newman
Lyrics By: Peter Gabriel

“Gran Torino” – Gran Torino

Is anyone else relying on this thread for commentary or info, or was it just me?

Coming up next is supposedly the introduction of Rumer Willis as “Miss Golden Globe.” They always choose the son or (most often) daughter of a current Hollywood star. Rumer, for those who don’t know, is the daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis. She gets a lot of flack for her looks and parentage, but I just saw her in a small role that she was fantastic in. It was a bit part in a spiffy little horror film called From Within. She can be an actress if she keeps it up.

Yep, that’s what’s happening now.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television

Neil Patrick Harris – How I Met Your Mother (CBS)
Denis Leary – Recount (HBO)
Jeremy Piven – Entourage (HBO)
Blair Underwood – In Treatment (HBO)

  • Tom Wilkinson – John Adams (HBO)

For results, I think anyone who cares is watching some broadcast or feed – we can just comment here.

For instance: Simon Baker is looking significantly less luscious than usual tonight.

Oooh – Cranford was delightful, I hope Eileen Atkins wins.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television

Eileen Atkins – Cranford (PBS)

  • Laura Dern – Recount (HBO)
Melissa George – In Treatment (HBO)
Rachel Griffiths – Brothers & Sisters (ABC)
Dianne Wiest – In Treatment (HBO)

Duh, of course, you’re right. I’ll stop posting results as they happen then.

And if anyone needs it, IMDB is updating their home page with the winners.

I didn’t know that Eva Mendes was Cuban! Cool. God I loved The Spirit.

That’s the first time I’ve heard Hayden Panettiere’s name pronounced. Pan-uh-tee-aire. Got it.

I’ve never seen more than 5 minutes of In Treatment…but I love Dexter and House :frowning: Was hoping Hall or Laurie would win this year.

Oh, that was adorable! Sally Hawkins winning Best Actress-Comedy for Happy Go Lucky, a very deserving win, but she was completely gobsmacked! What a sweetheart she is, both on-screen and off. I hope she gets nominated for an Oscar.

I hate it when they don’t show clips though. They should have shown clips from each nomination.

Btw, I just noticed, while that list I posted up above has been pretty right on, they did not do the opening song/montage. Yay!
