2015 Golden Globes watchalong thread

Please, no threadshitting. If you have a problem with awards shows, the Golden Globes, HFPA, Hollywood, actors, movies, movies you never heard of, drinking, parties, smoozing, or anything else, go start your own thread please.

What’s going on? I’m not home and I’m missing it all!

Is anybody watching?

I’m watching, and I was positive Jennifer Lopez was going to fly off the stage like a super villain.

I’ve been guessing the winners at about an 80% success rate, even for shows/movies I haven’t seen. Not sure if that says I have a good bead on the talent, or if the awards are pretty predictable. I’m thinking the latter though.

Tina and Amy are always fun to watch, as always.

Hey, go easy on Benedict Cumberbatch, Jennifer. He’s jetlagged.

Prince, as I live and breathe! Doesn’t he age?

Any funny jokes yet?

How does John Voight keep getting nominated for stuff? I think the last thing I saw him in was Anaconda.

And I’m not sure what that says about either him or I.

From Tina and Amy’s opening, I liked (paraphrasing):

“The Theory of Everything. Finally a movie that combines the two things people crave in a story: A horrible central nervous system disease and really, really complicated math.”

And the joke about Bill Cosby “Puttin’ the pills in the wimmin!”

Amy and Tina were great, but the show is dragging a little for me for some reason. Maybe it’s because I haven’t seen a lot of the movies yet and most of the winners of the tv stuff aren’t my first choice.

I haven’t seen How To Train Your Dragon 2, but I’m surprised it won over The Lego Movie or Big Hero 6, which were just amazing.

I loved How to Train Your Dragon 2. But The Lego Movie should’ve won. It just had that special awesomesauce.

Maybe Lego will win the Academy.

I predict George Clooney will win the Cecil B. DeMille award…

Ricky Gervais is a crackup. I hope he hosts next year.

Loved Tina and Amy’s gag about the real life Big Eyes model present–cut to Emma Stone in the audience.

Also, they noted a long list of George Clooney’s wife’s accomplishments… and he’s the one getting a lifetime achievement award.

Anyone watch “Jane the Virgin”? Is that actress really better than Julia Louis-Dreyfus?

Amy and Tina look stunning.

I think Margaret Cho’s bits as a North Korean general are falling kind of flat.

Well, he has played so many pranks over the years that that might be one too…

I also find Margaret Cho just not doing it for me. It was mildly funny on 30 Rock, but it’s a little too much now.

Yeh, Cho’s NK gag was funny at first, but they strung it out too long.

I was cracking up at Bill Hader and (what’s-her-name) doing those false movie quotes, though.

I think “Transparent” was generally “meh” but I think Tambor really deserved his award. He was by far the best part of the show.

I haven’t seen Transparent, but I’ve loved Tambor since LA Law. I haven’t seen whatever it was JK Simmons won for either, but it made me happy it was the two of them after all they’ve done and their consistent performances in everything.

Love Tambor, glad he won, but I was sorta rooting for Louis C.K.

I love Louis CK, but he’s not exactly hurting in recognition for his show. I think his strength is more in his writing than his acting, although I wouldn’t call him undeserving. It’s nice that this is not full of the usual suspects.
