Anyone late to work Monday morning because of DST?

I wasn't but three people in my office were. They have to buy donuts tomorrow.

I skipped school (not just randomly, it's Senior Skip Day), but yeah, I would have been late had I left at my usual time.

No, but I'm really, really tired. The T-storm at 5:00am didn't help a lot.

Sort of. I work at home and make my own hours, so it's not like anyone was upset that I wasn't in at my normal time other than my dogs, who don't know about DST, so for them it was business as usual.

I was an hour off - I woke up at 8:30 instead of my usual 7 - 7:30.

My household was early. WAY early.

We don't really keep many clocks. We have the alarm clock in the bedroom, and the computer clocks, and the clocks on the cell phones. That's pretty much it. We used to set the microwave and coffee pot clock, but the fuse that controls those outlets keeps going out, and about 4 months ago, I stopped resetting them altogether.

At any rate, at some point, I got confused. I changed the bedroom clock on Saturday, since we had nowhere to be on Sunday, and thought the situation resolved. Before we went to bed last night, I'm guessing that the cell phones had already switched (midnight), but my husband insisted that the time change doesn't officially happen until 2am. The computer clocks were no help, as half of them were one time, the other half were showing the other. So, thinking I was being air-headed, we moved the bedroom clock forward again.

I work from home, so my commute is all of 5 minutes. However, the child and the hubby were up and ready to leave by 6am, before the error was discovered. I blissfully snoozed another hour, while they meandered around trying to find something to do with themselves until it was time to go.

I was just a little late...about 15 minutes. Mostly because my daughter's nap & sleep schedule was a little weird yesterday, and she didn't want to wake up this morning (usually she is awake when I go to get her up). It took a little longer than usual to get her dressed, fed, etc., because she was so cranky from being woken up. Poor thing.

I reset all the clocks in my house yesterday, but apparently forgot to reset my brain. So this morning at 5:00 my alarm went off as normal. I reached over and turned it off, and the next thing I knew it was 6:15. So I wound up being an hour late for work, but not because I didn't change the clock.

Not really late, but a little.

I blame two DSL-related problems:

One, I couldn't go to sleep last night. My body does not reset its circadian rhythms as easily as my clock does.

Two, the sky was perfectly black when my alarm went off this morning. My brain responded with "HELL NO!" and made me push the snooze button a million times, or until the sun was up.

I worked yesterday, and despite the reminder signs I stuck up in bright colours all around the store, on the front entrance, at the counter, etc., I still had folks coming in and telling me, in all seriousness, that my clock was off, or angrily rattling our locked front doors after closing time. When I would go up to inspect what the deal was (perhaps someone had left a purse, keys, or a small child inside. who knows), they would point at me accusingly and yell through the glass: "YOU'RE OPEN UNTIL 5 ON SUNDAY! THE SIGN SAYS SO!" I would nod and say, "Yes, and it is now 5:45, the till has been closed for some time, thanks for coming by..." point at the brightly coloured sign by the door handle which they are holding tightly, rattling, somehow thinking it will miraculously unlock and let them in... ...buddy, I have to go home sometimes.

I hate Daylight Savings Time - beginning or ending. I work Sundays, and last fall I had the same problem, only early in the morning. OPEN UP YOU GUYS! I JUST HAVE TO BUY STUFF RIGHT NOW!

Maybe it's not Daylight Savings I hate. Maybe it's people.

Nope, just tired. I have trouble going to sleep anyway, and DST just makes it worse. Got about 4 hours worth and I really need 6 to function properly.

It was Sunday, not Monday. We didn't reset the clocks and SWMBO was late to church, including the class she teaches.

I forgot to change my alarm clock forward, but that wasn't a big deal because it was already like 35 minutes fast...so I wasn't too affected

I was about an hour late to work, but that was just because I'm lazy. I knew what time it was, and thought, "Fuck it, I'm sleeping in."

In my defence, work is wicked slow lately, so all I missed out on was another hour with you fine folks.

Wait, we're on daylight savings time now? I thought we just went off DST! Why the hell do we need to save daylight if the days are getting longer?

Because, although everybody concentrates on the effects in the evening, being woken at 4:30am by the sun streaming in the window really sucks.

What difference does that make? 4:30, 5:30, or 3:30... if the sun is comming up, it's comming up. The sun doesn't care that you're asleep.

I was. My cell phone adjusted to the time, and I changed all the other clocks. But my cellphone, which I use as my alarm clock, didn't work right. The signal strength kept alternating between all the bars and "Searching for Service", and other things were weird. Turns out one of them was that the alarms didn't sound even though the display showed their time coming and going.

So I didn't wake up on time Monday.

I pulled the battery and replaced it a few minutes later and everything cleared up.

The DST bug nailed me....

I showed up later than usual, a few minutes after nine even. Not really because of DST, just decided that I wanted to sleep in. (Love that flex-time! )

Of couse, now it's 7:00 am EDT tuesday morning, and I've been at work for 40 minutes.

*sigh*

No, but I care that I'm asleep. Even with DST, the summer sky is bright by six in the morning, and unless I want to seal my room (which I don't in summer), it's going to make it a little harder to sleep. Without DST, it'd be completely light by 5am, and I don't think I'd like that particularly much - I'm a shift worker, and don't generally go to sleep before 1am or so.

For most people, DST is all about the evening. For me, it's dark by the time I leave work (10pm) regardless, but it's the mornings that matter.

Oh yes, and it fades the curtains.

DST really screwed up my sleep schedule. Starting yesterday, I switched my hours from 5 8hr shifts to 4 10 hr shifts. Actually, since we're busy, I switched from 6 8's to 5 10's. So, I had to wake up 1.5 hrs early due to shift change and another hour due to DST.

Basically, I went from waking up at 7:00 AM to waking up at 4:30 AM. It really didn't help that I was up till about 3:00 AM on sat and slept in on Sun.

I was pretty much a zombie at work yesterday.

I must say I love that about living where I live - midsummer, the sky's not totally dark until 11 or later Canada Day fireworks have to start at 10 because the sun's just setting around then.

Yes, you high latitude folks are spoiled rotten with that, you lucky buggers. A British friend of mine says one of his favourite things was to spend a summer evening in a beer garden outside a pub in the far north of Scotland so he could drink and chat over a sunset that lasted forever.

On the other hand, my first visit to SE Asia had me looking forward to seeing those postcard tropical sunsets. Yes, they were impressive, but blink and you miss it! It was like somebody turning out a light.

So we capture sunlight in the mornings, store it in our clocks, and let it out during the evening? Now it all makes sense .
