US and Canadian Dopers- don't forget to set your clocks this Saturday night

Daylight Saving Time begins this Saturday night (technically Sunday morning). Don’t forget to set your clocks one hour ahead. Yes, it will suck having to get up an hour earlier on Monday morning, but I do enjoy those late sunsets.

Luckily, the only clocks in my house are my computer and my Sprint phone. Both of them update automatically so I won’t have to try to do it when I’m hammered Saturday night.

The clock at my bedside is still on summer time from last year, so I’ll just have to remember to stop subtracting one hour when I wake up.

It’s gonna hurt to have to get up in the dark again, I tell ya. I was starting to feel a little spoiled by seeing a little bit of light outside my window when I crawl out of bed at 6:ish am.

Great. :frowning: Now I’m going to be groggy until November.

You could wait to do it until you wake up Sunday morning, at least if you’re like me and don’t generally have anything you have to get up for on weekends.

Feh. I like the light when I get up at half past six. It tells me I need to haul my ass to work. When it’s still dark outside my ass tries to overrule my brain by saying, “Look! It’s still dark! Dark is sleep time. Now shut up.”

Can I hit the global snooze button and postpone this for another 9 days?

What, already? It’s still snowing! You’re not supposed to set them ahead until spring!

(And if the weather forecast is correct, we’re going to be in the middle of another &^#$$% snowstorm…)

Go Arizona! We’re not dumb enough to fall for that “daylight savings” crap. Have you ever had any daylight left over after you save it? I didn’t think so. No sirree–we just stay the same all year and let everyone else adjust to us.

Goodness, all the hatin’!

I love it, myself, because you have more time after work to be outside and play. I get up early, so it’s dark, anyway, no matter what.

Only on my commuting days my alarm goes off at 0340 and I don’t get home until 1930 or 2000.

I think I might go back to eight-hour days and telecommute Friday as well as Monday.

Anyway, this thread has prompted me to take the new clock/radio/alarm that sets DST automatically into my bedroom and move the old one into the back bedroom. Cable/DVR and my PowerBook set themselves automatically. So I just have my watch, the coffee maker, the microwave oven, the Jeep’s clock, and the two travel alarm clocks to set.

I refuse to change my clocks. I’m going to continue operating on standard time all summer, and anyone who doesn’t like it can just go screw themselves.

Good heavens, are commutes requiring being alert-if not out the door-by 5AM par for the course these days?!

OTOH, the times are in military format, implying a duty day involving “0-dark-early”.

It’s worse than that: has anyone noticed that since they extended the hours to give use even MORE extra daylight, we’ve started having all these stories about global warming? I mean, “duh, folks, more daylight == more warming.” It just makes sense.

Bump.

And that extra day of sunlight in February this year just made it that much worse.

I’m with Gorsnak on this - proudly independent of the madness!

It seems unnatural that the Canucks and Merkins are on DST at the same time as we are.

Was listening to an american guy on the radio tonight who did a study of DST in Indiana (which was useful because some towns there didn’t adopt DST and some did, so he had a control and an expriment group) and he maintans DST actually increases power consumption. I really want him to be wrong because I like DST, but I don’t think he is.

Wonder how many people won’t get your statement?

Seriously, I can never remember which time zone Saskatchewan is following at any given time of year. Sometimes, it’s that same time as Alberta; other times, it’s the same time as Manitoba. So, when travelling through Saskatchewan, my answers to the question, “What time is it?” are often like the following:

– Lunch time
– Time to stop for gas
– Daytime/Nighttime (as appropriate)

Timely answers, wouldn’t you agree?

I third Gorsnak!

But I also agree with Spoons - I can never remember which timezone we correspond to - are we with the Albertans now, or the Manitobans?
