Beauty and the Geek 9/18 - Spoilers

God I love this show. I can understand being nervous around women. I can understand having unique hobbies and passions…but I will never understand the absolute cluelessness of the geeks. Filking? That’s what you want to start with? When RPGers need to feel superior, that’s who they make fun of.

A couple of thoughts:
Host: “Who was the first man on the moon?”
Beauty (I think it was Natalie): “Neil Armstrong?”
Host gasps in shock “That’s right! What were his first words?”
Beauty: “…Yay America?”
Host: “It’s like you were there.”

I want to punch the LARPer. In the face. Repeatedly.

Was the geeky girl supposed to be unattractive or something? 'Cause she wasn’t.

“I haven’t read a book since I started college…I’ve been too busy studying.”

The geek trying to figure out if he’s actually been kissed or not.

Nate staring in awe at Nintendo with the computer in it – in fact, Nate connecting with all the geeks during the interviews.

No geeks in Las Vegas.

“My mom cuts my hair!”

The himbo: "My favorite classes in junior college were weight training…

(at about this point you can actually see the muscles in his brain straining)

…" (cut to commercial)

I only caught the second half, but the Mrs. and I are probably going to tune in for this season.

Oh, tell me about it. When they do the make over, she’s gonna clean up nice. And when the beauties have to see that she’s smart and pretty, they’re gonna eat her alive.

In the previews it looked to me like the pretty-boy is the guy who does some hooking up. Which is too bad. I always liked the relationships that develop between the beauties and geeks and I’m afraid it’s just going to be beautiful people getting together this season. I can watch that on every other show on TV.

Nevermind, I read the original post wrong.

Did you know the male beauty is actually an actor who starred in a few Disney movies his imdb page here.

Oh, god, the LARPer! On the one hand, I get that some people are just plain missing that brain function when it comes to social skills. On the other hand, I kind of hate him. Which is so not fair and I feel guilty about it. I’ll try not to dwell on it too much.

I love Hollie. (I think that’s her name. The Betty Boop chick.) She’s cartoony-adorable and seems pretty clever. Probably not terribly book smart, but sharp nonetheless. (I can relate.)

My husband is convinced that the Geek Girl and Beauty Guy are ringers (He also thinks Nate from last season was one), but I don’t think so.

FWIW, I’m suspicious too. The girl’s outfit looked too much like a costume and I suspect they geeked her up more than she would be on her own, but I’m not sure she’s a total ringer. The guy’s acting credits are also curious.

Reserving judgement for now.

Mostly I’m trying to be optimistic and convince myself they’re not ringers.
But you’re entirely right that her outfit was costume-y, and I suspect she’ll be a knockout post-makeover.
And frankly, I sort of hope the “beauty” guy is at least average-smart (although they certainly didn’t edit him that way). He’s so very unattractive that it would be a shame for him to be a true dumbass as well.

Geek girl really did have a certain cuteness to her. As for the beautiful guy… he really wasn’t.

I noticed that this morning. There were definitely some people last season who were actors…not saying ringers, just community-theater level actors. This guy, though, did more than just a few commercials…he’s been a regular on tv shows!

Doesn’t mean he can’t be dumb, though…

My brother is Luke so I am excited about this season. I haven’t managed to see the show yet because I don’t have cable hooked up at my new apartment. Does anyone know if they post the episodes online? I don’t want to have to try and torrent it.

Wow…how long ago was the show shot? Have you seen his makeover?

kimera, do you mean that he is actually your brother, or that your brother is just like him?
Luke was one of my favorite geeks last night. (I also like BowTie and RubberBandMan.)
His hair is a disaster (pre-makeover), but I see a lot of potential for his tranformation (looks-wise and social skills-wise).

So - does he win? C’mon! You can tell us.

Luke’s one of my younger brothers. I am curious to see how he is portrayed on the show as I am sure they are careful with their edits. He’s not the only person I know on the show. My brother Mark knows the other guy from Cincinnati (small geek world I guess). And I can’t tell anything even if I knew it. Luke has been very tight lipped.

What a geek.

Small world! My oldest daughter is friends with your youngest sister and my 8th grader is in the same class as your youngest brother. I asked her if anyone teased J- about it. She said, “No! We were all like, ‘Luke and Holly belonged together! They were robbed!’” (Drama runs high in 8th grade.)

If you haven’t seen the show, a very bubbly woman named Holly got along well with Luke. They both indicated that they’d like to be paired up with each other. They weren’t.

That’s crazy PunditLisa! You must live nearby my parent’s house. We should visit when I spend winter holiday there. Does your daughter who is friends with E go to the same High School as her too?

My brother sent me a copy of the episode so I finally watched it. Hollie is really cute. I was so annoyed that they weren’t paired together!! I think they would have made a great couple. Boo Katie.

We live in the same neighborhood. I actually roomed with your mother and sister when we all went on a Girl Scout trip to Charleston/Savannah, GA. She’s very interesting and incredibly smart. We’re going to have dinner soon with our dinner club. I couldn’t help thinking of her reaction when we watched the show. Before the show we asked her what she thought about her son appearing on the show and she said, “Him being classified as a geek doesn’t bother me. I asked Luke if he’d done anything that his grandparents would be ashamed of and he said no. I hope he’s telling the truth.”

So far so good. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, my daughter goes to the same school as E, which I believe is your alma mater. Your aunt also teaches Chemistry there, if I understand correctly.
