Hitler / "Downfall" mash-ups

I first posted an example of one in this thread, but since then, I keep running into them.

If you don’t know the film, Downfall is the recent movie about Hitler’s final days in the bunker, with Bruno Ganz turning in a riveting performance as Adolf himself.

But after the brilliant Blu-Ray mashup, I’ve seen a very funny one on [and a less successful one on [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8dl4faCpJE&feature=related]automobiles](]the Dallas Cowboys[/url).

There’s even a videogame saga that starts here and continues here, here, here and here (with yet another offshoot here).

And of course, Vista doesn’t go unscathed, either.

Is this the kind of thing where the first person to invoke Hitler is ruled the loser, according to Godrich’s Law? :stuck_out_tongue:

Inevitably (and quite hilariously), the Obama/Clinton feud becomes fodder for the clip.

sorry.

Look like some pinhead working for the film company is issuing takedown notices to YouTube, and is completely unclear on the concept. These mash-ups increase interest in the original film and do not, in any way, detract from sales of the original film.

Exactly what is the point of these mash-ups? Do the people that make them think they’re clever in some way?

Downfall was a great movie, though. Very affecting. Some of the actors were dead ringers; you’d think Goebbels had gotten a weekend pass from Hell to be in the movie.

Baldwin aside, I think they’re pretty hysterical. In fact, I made one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4MqwkTl7bs&e

Here’s my contribution to the genre: Silent Downfall

I can attest that these parodies resulted in at least one DVD sale. I’d never heard of the film until I started seeing these videos and I thought it looked interesting. I was right.

I see. And you have access to their sales figures?

Otherwise, how do you know this?

How could it possibly detract from sales? People aren’t going to not buy the film just because they saw a single scene with joke subtitles, are they?

I’ve seen some funny ones, but it’s pretty hard concentrating on the subtitles when you can understand the audio.

Also: the original film is well worth watching.

I have to say that is freaking brilliant. I particularly liked, “Don’t worry. The Keystone Kops will never get through the Russian lines.”

Hitler on the new “Watchmen” ending.

They’re funny due to the juxtaposition of such a serious and dramatic performance with subtitles of a ridiculous nature. A sense of humor is a prerequisite to any of them.

I found the one about Hitler getting banned from Xbox Live was a pretty funny one too, but maybe because it was the first one I watched.

As Joe Bob Briggs said “I’m surprised I have to explain these things.”

Great stuff. It’s good to see fresh versions of the parody.

I came across this meme only a few weeks ago and I think it’s brilliant; I have seen a dozen or so of them and have yet to come across one which didn’t amuse me at least a little. Anyone know who who started the whole thing? He or she definitely deserves fifteen minutes of fame for a great idea.
