Kingdom of Loathing--Friends of Cecil recruitment!

Since there’s a game forum…
Things have been pretty quiet–TOO quiet–in the clan lately. So any current players or new players (http://www.kingdomofloathing.com) come on over to the Friends of Cecil clan. The soda machine and meat bush are in working order, and we have a comfy sofa.

I’d join, but I’ve got a one-man clan of my own (which I inherited from my friend, who went inactive. He, in turn, inherited the clan when all the previous members went inactive). Nice to know there are other dopers adventuring through the kingdom though! I’m Dirx in there, and just began a new ascension after a bit of a haiatus.

A one-man clan! How sad. Let us know if you want to join (we don’t really have a military programme-- if anyone’s interested. . .).

Ooh! I used to play this! I just made a new character, and I’d love to join your guild.

Well, I joined, signed in, and am even qualified to chat.

I still have no idea what the heck this place is though.

I just applied to the clan. My name over there is Squidwina.

Squidwina, yer in! They’ve really added a pile of new content lately.
BBs2k-- what’s your name over there? I think I can whitelist your future application.

Well, I started last night as Antinor (figured I’d keep it simple) and got level 2 last night. Might manage level 3 with todays turns.

I’m a one-trick-pony:

Yes! Please join and add more stuff to the clan stash!

Wait! What happened to the tanning bed!? Am I going to have to actually earn moxie points now!? No!!!

Wait, so you’d rather have the tanning bed than the couch? Argh. We should take a vote.
I’ll whitelist or add you guys.

Well, what does the couch do that the campground doesn’t? It’s not actually that important to me, I just wondered what the thought process was.

You know, I used to use gyms too, but honestly - you’re almost always in every way better off earning stats through adventuring. Unless you have to work off your Teleportitis or something, or are getting really bored or you don’t have any time and you’re about to lose a bunch of adventures because of rollover or whatever.

(I’m no expert, but I am about to ascend for the 15th time.)

Well, moxie determines to-hit and dodge chances in most cases. Because of that, it can be very difficult to kill certain monsters, and so you’re stuck levelling up the stat by killing weaker monsters. Unless you’ve got a heavy stat-boosting familiar and maybe some +monster level enchants, the tanning bed seems quicker and easier to me. (The other option is to ascend under a moxie sign, and spend your adventures in the Gnomish area to boost moxie)

But then again, I don’t have quite as much experience, and am as far away as you can get from a statistics-crunching munchkin, so take my observation as you will.
EDIT: I’m not actually calling Zsofia (or anyone else here) a munchkin. On re-reading, I realize it could be taken that way.

Well, my thought was that it would be nice for low level characters who don’t yet have a house at their campgrounds yet (the couch does like 40-50 HP per round-- a lot better than the newbie tent). Anyway, I opened up a IMHO thread on the clan board on which to opine.

Hey, i’ll donate all the old crap form my character, I don’t play anymore.

If you can tolerate another newbie, I’m in.

I didn’t even know there was a SDMB clan. Can someone send me an invite? (I’m tanstaafl over there too, #627881.)

And in other news, I just finished my 29th ascension today and just started a Pastamancer run. Also, Mad Hatracks are great fun.

Oh yeah, I got a bunch of crap I can dump in a clan stash too (it’s all in my display case right now). I probably won’t be able to move it over until I get out of hardcore though, and since I just started the run today it’ll probably be a couple of weeks.

Tanstaafl (wow, you’re sure veteran. I don’t even know what a mad hatrack is) and StinkyMcGrew, yer’ in. And Antinor, of course.
