An Adventurer Is You!

Okay…I know we’ve got some Kingdom of Loathing players in here already, but we need more and we need the leadership of “Friends of Cecil” to return and give me a higher karma spending limit, dangit.

If you like RPGs with a social aspect that don’t eat up as much time as Everquest (and admittedly aren’t as pretty) and have a sense of humor, Kingdom of Loathing might interest you.
It’s free and stuff. No download, works decently over dialup.

Sincerely,

Thumpp

Level 7 Accordion Thief, 4x Ascended

Bumping this once.

OK, I stopped playing months ago. I started playing again last night. I joined the clan, and I hope to ascend soon.

I forgot just how fun it was.

My KoL name is psycat90 - level 12 sauceror.

I think I may have taken over my hubby’s account as well since he’s lost in WoW.
Demo - level 12 disco bandit.

I quit playing months ago too and have had to create new characters. My characters are AbeLincoln and RasputinDynamite.

I play as well. I’m Taber there too. I’ve been ascended 3 times. It’s great fun.

I’m interested in joining your clan, since the one I’m in is kind of dead. Unfortunately, I’m driving to college for the next couple of days, so I won’t be able to join for awhile. (also unfortunate because this ascension is so much faster than my others, and that will be ruined by not being able to play for those days)

I started an account and used up my turns in nothing flat. Damn.

I am Realtor, the Ever-Smashing.

I figure you might as well learn a given system as a sword jock.

The hotel has internet access, so I was able to play today’s turns, and apply to the clan.

Oh, and I forgot to mention I’m a level 10 sauceror currently

Ooh, I started playing two days ago because I remembered this thread. I’m a level 3 disco bandit, and still just trying to figure out what to do most of the time.

Fairly new player here as well.

I’ve spent the first 5 levels in the newbie dungeons, and haven’t learned much about the game.

I’ve read the FAQ’s and supposed help posts, but there seems to be a whole lot about the game left (deliberately) for discovery, which while I appreciate for discovery’s sake, it does make it a little difficult to get into.

The adventuring thing is easy enough, but I’m wondering if anyone has any tips (or even an explanation) for things like crafting (with meat paste?) and ascending and whether or not new dungeons just open up at certain levels and where the heck my spells are since I’m a pastamancer.

If you go to the Council of Loathing (in Seaside Town) they’ll tell you your current quests. In addition to those, there are a lot of side-quests you get from NPCs. My tips for you would be to do as much as possible when Ronald (the left moon) is full. Combining stuff is fairly simple. It’s used for making new items. Make some meat paste for 10 meat each (if you make more than you need you can sell them for 10 meat each so no loss there) and just start sticking stuff together. Most things can’t be combined. Building the meatcar should give you an idea of what things can.

Sorry if this is a shoddy explanation. KoL is deceptively complex and it’s not that easy to explain concisely. But if you don’t mind being spoiled feel free to consult the Kol VisualWiki.

I just spent days and days and days in the arena trying to get the black hole terrarium trophy, and eventually learned that one’s familiars’ equipment doesn’t count towards the 500 lbs. I’m very grumpy. Sigh.
I’ll pop into the clanand see what’s happening.

AKA Ghila checking in:
Hooray for new clan mates! I should admit that I started the “Friends of Cecil” clan with one of my multies and that the clan would obviously benefit from more active leadership.

I can’t help it, I’m a lurker at heart!

In any case, the higher Karma members have been promoted, so anyone wanting a leadership role: please feel free.

In the meantime, happy mysticality day!

I logged in today and got a buggerload of mysticality and wizardlyness points from “clan purchases.” How does this work, and what am I supposed to be doing to contribute my part?

I’ve been away for maybe 1.5 months. I have a Disco Bandit. I’ll try to get back on one night in the hotel room and do some catch-up.

I have two questions:

  1. What does being in a clan do?

  2. Oh! Oh! Let me in, pleeeeease?

I have 20 adventures, but I’m too drunk off of mad train wine to do anything…
Also, I’m using the same name there as I am here.

Many areas open up at a certain level, but you have to check in with the council to actually open them up.

To get skills, you have to pass the three tests at the league of the chef magi, then buy them at the trainer. I’m not sure how powerful you have to be to do this. I think it’s level 4ish

Ascension is the late game. After you beat the last boss, the naughty sorcerous, you can elect to reset your character to level 1, and reselect your class. You aren’t starting over exactly, in that you get to keep 1 skill to keep, and the kept skills carry over, so after I ascend 3 times, my character will have 3 skills that have carried over. I won’t explain hardcore vs. softcore now for fear of overwhelming you, but you should look into that when it is actually time to ascend. The same goes for zodiac signs

Clans help in sveral ways. You get 500 meat and 3 advs a day extra (assuming the clan has a meat tree and calender), there’s also a clan gym, where you can trai muscle, moxie, or mysticality, if you’re too drunk to fight or need to train that one stat specifically.

Clan purchases can be either temporary or permanent boosts to any of the three stats. Fifteen purchases can be made each day and the maximum stat-boosting permanent boost gives 8-10 stat points at a cost of 1350 meat per member. The cost for this comes out of the clan coffer. The bonuses gain the 50% bonus that stat days confer, so they’re obviously most effective on stat days. Don’t feel obligated to throw meat into the coffers to cover this, as the players who most benefit are the least likely to be able to afford to contribute. I see them as a nice, occasional bonus (as it works out to around half a million meat for a full day of casting for our clan).
