I'm a grandmother, and it's GRAND!
After much ado, false alarms, breaking waters and doctors arguing amongst themselves about the Right Course of Action, my little grandson was born yesterday morning, four weeks premature, at 7.00am AEDST.
He's a dead-set ugly little monkey....a full head of jet black hair, needs shaving on his arms and his back, and he's got scrawny little arms and spindly legs with huge feet hanging off've the end of them.  But, by OG, he's gorgeous. And I'm a proud grandma at last!!

Thankyou Neverending Elbow, (most interesting UserName btw....must tell us how you came upon it one day!!).
The Kid and the new kidlet are coming to stay with me after being discharged from hospital, so I will have many happy monkey-hours to spend just playing and holding and doing all the fun stuff that grandparents get to do without all the tedium of early morning feeds etc. Is one-week old too young to chuck the kid on the back of the ag-bike and take him fishing down the river??

Congrats! You must be very relieved and happy! Is this the first grandchild for you?
I am 36 weeks pregnant, so was following your previous thread with interest. If you don't mind me asking, what did the doctors finally decide with regard to the broken waters - did they hurry things along, or treat with antibiotics until nature took its course?

Wow, congratulations!
Even though I fully recognize that none of my daughters (ages 22, 18 and 9) are ready to be mothers, I've been ready to be a grandmother for about three years now. . .  I'm delighted for you!

That's the nice thing about being a Grandma
You can play with him, and Mommy can feed him You can play with him, and Mommy can change him You can play with him and Daddy can put him to bed You can play with him and Daddy can yell at him when he'd bad And remember as a Grandmother it's your duty, when the parents send the kid to bed without supper as a punishment, you sneak the kid up food

Well, on Wednesday evening we got 'The Call' that labour was definitely going to be induced RIGHT NOW, so we hot-footed it the 340km journey down the highway....only to find that while one Dr was keen to induce, another was having reservations. By the time we got to the hospital (about 10.30pm), she was back on the ante-natal ward thoroughly pissed-off about the whole thing.
At midnight, the midwives came around and asked her to start fasting because a caesar was being scheduled for the morning. Thursday morning came (and nearly went) and nothing happened. My daughter is a grumpy thing at the best of times, but all this AND NO FOOD turned her into a screaming banshee. I really pity those poor nurses. Anyway, they changed their minds again.....no caesar.  At least they allowed her to eat. Thursday afternoon, 5.00pm, after consultation with the head Obstetric honcho, a decision is made to begin induction (again). This time she IS hooked up to a drip in the Birthing Unit. Labour begins. Cutting longer story even shorter, after 13 hours on a syntocin drip effective labour really didn't get established at all, and my daughter was in much pain and exhausted. Off to the operating theatre for a caesarean delivery afterall and at 7am Friday, Zen came into the world. It's taken ME three days to recover, I can't imagine how they're both feeling!

You should have ordered an IV drip of something calming, like beer, for yourself.
