Some sort of violent new Mortal Kombat trailer is floating around

Michael Jai White and Jeri Ryan are in it.

Is it a new movie? Is it the trailer for the next game?

I’d say movie, and I’d say it looked great.

The setup is stupid as all hell (if he can get out whenever he wants, and now he knows his archenemy is alive and will be there, what does he need the cops for?), but the characters and fights looked great.

IMDB says there’s a new movie version set for 2013 release that will be a complete reboot of the series (it won’t pay any attention to anything in previous movies).

That’ll work, 'cause I don’t think anybody else did either.

I actually thought the first Mortal Kombat movie was one of the better video game to movie adaptations. Damning with faint praise I guess.

I can’t get that site to work, but is this the trailer you’re talking about?

Wait, previous movies, plural? They actually made more than one of that monstrosity?

And I’d never have high hopes for a video game to movie adaptation, but then I remind myself that it’s possible to make a good amusement park ride to movie adaptation. If Pirates of the Carribean is possible, then anything is.

That’s some really clunky exposition right there.

Yeah, a detective talking matter-of-factly about Shang Tsung and Baraka certainly has some unintentional comedy potential. And I’m not sure how compelling of a plot a Mortal Kombat movie can have, but I’m not too worried about that. As long as it’s rated R with plenty of great fight scenes, stylized violence, and gore, I will probably be entertained by it.

Can’t decide if this one goes in cafe or the game room, since it’s still not clear

Anyways, there is a new Mortal Kombat trailer on the internets. And it is pretty damn rad, I have to say.

You can watch it here. NSFWish, violence and blood. Link is spoilered:

I pretty much grew out of the series after MK3, but damned if my 12-year-old self didn’t love MK to death. This trailer hits all the right notes, IMO - the supernatural crap is turned way down and it plays serious (for MK, of course) rather than ridiculous and over-the-top like the series has been.

Right now, it sounds like people are still speculating - is it for a movie? Or a game?

MOIDALIZE beat you to it

This is a proof of concept short, but made by people not directly associated with the planned full scale production. They’re basically publicly putting themselves forward for the job.

Merged two threads.

He didn’t know his archenemy was alive. He may not even have known about the tournament. Once he was convinced of those things, he didn’t appear to have the slightest concern for anything the cops may have wanted.

It’s test footage for a potential movie?

Test footage leaked

Twitter stuff

basically it was made for the director to sell WB on a new MK film, which I suppose means it’s nothing FROM a new MK film

Also Kotaku sucks, terribly. They’re full of rumors and misinformation that they never bother correcting and should therefore never be trusted on anything newsworthy. That is all

Same. It might not be high-class literature, but it’s still what I’d call a good movie.

How do you figure? This clip (which is made of pure awesome by the way), just sort of appeared on YouTube today. No one had anything to go at first other than that it starred two quasi-famous actors.

And WBIE is known for this kind of thing as they’ve put out two live-action trailers for FEAR 3. An MK one isn’t that far-fetched.

Was that Christian Bale?

No.

Where?

Scorpion.
