I understand that CNN is trusting polls and exit polls, but I still find it mildly ridiculous that they show a graphic giving the Delaware race to Coons with the vote total 0-0.

Some of the other leaked exit polling shows Michael Bennet winning in Colorado. If any Senate seat should have been an easy pickup for the R's, this was it. He was an unknown, and was appointed by Obama when Ken Salazar was tapped for the Sec. of Interior spot. He'd been polling behind his opponent all fall, but made a comback in the last few weeks. His opponent is a Tea Party favorite who beat the establishment candidate in the primary. Governor looks to be a safe Dem win as well. The state Republicans are up there with Delaware for blowing a great opportunity. |

On that note, I'm going to be interested to see what happens to the state house and senate. I've read comments by state Republicans that it doesn't matter if Maes gets under 10% and relegates the party to minor party status, as they'll just simply change the law next year. It'll be fun to watch if that doesn't turn out to be quite as simple as they'd like to think.

Okay, now some real votes coming in from Delaware. Dems Carney and Coons both coming in well over 60%.

WVa. called for the Dems. Connecticut as well. The worst case scenario is not playing out for the Dems. Looks like they keep the Senate.
Between CT and CA, it looks like $200M in personal funds have been spent in vain. I've woken up in Veags kicking myself for losing $300. I can't imagine what McMahon and Whitman are going to feel like tomorrow morning. |

Well, Coons was in scoring position at the time, so the projection is understandable.

Looks like Boucher has been ousted in VA-9. This is my district, and I'm a little surprised. Boucher was long entrenched, for years the Democrat that Republicans would vote for round here. Representing a district with almost 20% uninsured population, he voted against the health care bill, but apparently that didn't save him.
Next door in VA-5, Perriello is also going down, but that was more expected. Last edited by Peremensoe; 11-02-2010 at 07:54 PM. |

I have to be honsest and say that even though he was a Dem, Alvin Greene was probably the single worst candidate on any ballot for any office in any state. It's an embarassment that he was on a ballot at all.

Really nothing too shocking so far - if anything a good night for Dems so far, definitely in the Senate. Exit polls looking shocking good in WI and CO, actually (at least on CNN). Big win in WV. House looking like ~55 seats, right in line with the projections.

Winning the Senate was always an outside chance. People trying to paint this as a good night for Democrats are kidding themselves.
CNN is projecting a Republican House takeover as we speak. That's a good Republican night. |

Any bet about what Carl Paladino's concession speech will be like? I"m guessing it'll be a long profanity-laden rant, and maybe a threat or two to Cuomo.
Heh ... the spell checker recommended "Palomino's". |

Right, because you don't want to make law, just stop it from being made for the next two years. Long enough to make sure we hit a global warming tipping point. Poor baby, you still don't know that the Great Old Ones won't really eat you first.

Well, it might be hilarious, but Lawrence O'Donnell was making a valid point about the debt ceiling and Rand Paul. What if he does single-handedly force the US into default? I'd prefer not to live through the Second Great Depression.

People trying to deny that not taking the Senate is a fail for the Republicans are kidding themselves. They got the House for a couple of year. Bully for them. All it means is that they have to work with Obama now, which will incense the teabaggers all the more. They are responsible now. They can't just be the sandbagging, griping, cancerous Randy Mosses of Washington anymore.

I stand by my comment: anything less than 8 Senate seats and 55 house seats in this climate is a good night for the Democrats. Especially when you consider everything this Congress accomplished (and all of the difficult votes that entails).
If they win a few (hell, even one) out of IL, WI, NV, CO I will be very pleasantly surprised by how it went down. |

They have to pass legislation, and they have to pass legislation that will pass the Senate. They can't just sit on their dicks anymore. Doing nothing will spell their doom. Passing legislation that fails to pass the Senate will spell their doom.
And Obama still holds the veto pen. The House can't enact legislation by itself, and they can no longer do nothing either. Obama calls the shots now. The imbeciles who voted these idiots in are expecting instant, magical results. Good luck, dumbasses. Be careful what you wish for. Last edited by Diogenes the Cynic; 11-02-2010 at 08:36 PM. |

Results that have or would make me feel better:
Cuomo, Schumer, and Gillibrand winning in NY Tonko and Murphy winning in NY Denish, Heinreich, and Teague winning in NM Sestak winning in PA The results in DE and CT Bennett and Hickenlooper winning in CO; bonus points if Maes comes in under 10% |

I think it would actually be rather a remarkable accomplishment considering the shit Obama inherited. Clinton lost both Houses during his first mid-term and cleaned the Republicans' clock for reelction. The way I see it, Obama is doing better than either Clinton or Reagan did at this same point in their Presidencies.

I'm astonished at O'Donnell's gall: I asked him to adopt all my positions. I hope Coons didn't sprain his eyeballs.
On the bright side, "We've got a lot of food, we've got the room all night, so let's party!" Can't argue with that, Christine. |
