Congressman Anthony Weiner: My Twitter account was hacked! The weiner photo is not mine!

So the spin is that someone hacked Weiner’s account and put up a photo of a close of a pair of grey men’s boxer shorts with a bulge in them. The news stories here are going nuts with “weiner” puns.

Here’s a list of questions you can ask Weiner if you get the chance

Questions for Weiner

I’m skeptical about the hacked account story. But since nobody was hurt, and since Weiner’s constituents likely won’t care, this won’t be a big deal.

Why?

Well, they always say that, don’t they?

A politician would have to be the biggest idiot on the planet or attempting political suicide to intentionally put something like that on a public forum. Normally they would just put it in a private email because there’s no way anyone else would ever see it.

Yeah, I could see some older Senator who didn’t realize that Twitter was public doing it, but Weiner is pretty hip.

And this article definitely makes it sound like a hacker:

Yeah - he’s hip enough to have been following the woman in question on Twitter. He isn’t answering questions about why he was doing that, nor is he denying that the photo in question was of him.

He also has shifted gears abruptly and has started calling the whole thing a prank.

I am not saying he is guilty of anything, but there isn’t enough here to absolve him either. Not yet.

Does he have to answer questions about why he was following people on Twitter? I think it’s pretty clear that they are saying someone (not Wiener) posted the picture as a prank, and the girl who received it says she was being harassed by someone (also not Wiener)

She also is not saying that the person that harassed her was the source of the photo in question.

Her statement:

Given that he was once Jon Stewart’s roommate (and still his good bud), this is a bad week for TDS to be on vacation…

More than one person (including this Washington Post blogger) have noticed that a surprising number of the people Rep. Weiner follows are young attractive women.

This would include the recipient of the photo mentioned.

So while he doesn’t have to answer that question, that doesn’t mean it isn’t being asked.

Well, he did throw up a tweet about a month ago asking people if they wanted him to follow them. Many people responded to the tweet, and he started following them. I doubt it’s some huge conspiracy.

[[REMOVED PERSONAL INFORMATION]]

one thing they are reporting is that it hit right-wing sites very quickly, suggesting that it may have been sent to embarrass/discredit weiner.

i would think that dealing with a last name like the congressman’s for life would give him a bit of knowledge on how to deal with those who would try to embarrass/discredit him.

Mr Moto, if you follow the links from the gawker page, its pretty clear the source for this is precisely one guy, whose been harassing the same college student for a month, who tweeted about this event before it supposedly happened, and either hacked Weiners accounts or simply photoshopped screencaptures to look like he had.

Sad. I was kind of hoping that we could spend the next couple weeks hearing various news casters have to use the word “weinergate”. Ah well, maybe John Boehner will be caught sleeping with a stripper or something.

Well, her precise words were “less then zero” of his followers were young woman. But the guys young, smart, funny, relatively good looking and until recently, single. And recently offered to follow people if they asked. That a lot of the respondents to that offer were young woman isn’t really surprising.

Correction: New episodes of TDS start tonight. So I wonder what Jon will say…

That Congressman Weiner’s dick isn’t that big, from what he remembers. Ha.

Jon Stewart hopes it isn’t his old roomie, and is pretty sure because the one seen under the cloth is much too big.

The hacking thing is a pretty convenient excuse, but there’s apparently some reason to believe it might be plausible. We’ll see if this story stays alive long enough for anyone to find out.

Er, um, first of all, Jon Stewart made a point of stating they were never roommates, just college friends, and still chums.

Secondly,

, no one is speaking to who follows him on twitter, but who he follows.

I can’t stand misinformation in the morning!

Right. And call me crazy, but I doubt he was following the young woman in Seattle because of her detailed policy analysis.
