I’m open to tweaking things before the season starts, if there appears to be a consensus. There will be no changes of any kind after the season starts.

This is open to anyone interested. Please post here with your team name once you’ve signed up.

Are you going to keep the settings with 2 QBs as well as the offensive flex player? That could allow someone to start 3 QBs!

Hmmm…is there a reason to not do that? I’m new at this whole choosing league settings thing.

QBs generally score significantly more than other postions, so setting even 2 QBs drastically changes the comparative values between positions and makes QBs extremely valuable. Allowing three QBs in a 14 team league (where there could only possibly be 32 starting QBs) is automatically a big problem for league balance.

Just a heads up, your draft time borderline conflicts with the SDMB all pro league (Sep 1, 9:45pm) - which means 12 of the SDMB’s most dedicated players might hesistate to play in that league too. Then again it’s possible your draft will be over by then and there won’t be a conflict.

We worked out a draft schedule last year for our various SDMB leagues and we’ve been maintaining the same relative schedule this year - not the same exact dates, but the same “tuesday before the season opener, thursday after the third week of preseason” type relative days.

The schedule so far is
Dynasty league Fri, Aug 26 9:15et
Auction league Tue, Aug 30 9:45et
All-pro league Tue, Sep 1 9:45et
Big league Tue, Sep 6 9:15et

And I’m not sure if the keeper league is officially set yet but they traditionally draft on labor day.

You can change the flex spot to WR/RB/TE and have the same effect you are going for without hurting the ability to be able to have everyone draft the max number of QBs.

I’m in, I just have to head over to sign up.

Hey, is this going to be a keeper league? Or are we doing this as a one off?

OK, changing to a WR/RB/TE flex spot works for me. If there are no strenuous objections, I’ll plan on doing that.

I hadn’t considered doing a keeper league. Not adverse to the concept…anyone else have input on that?

I really doubt this draft will be done in 15 minutes…my start time is 8:30 PM Central. If there is no player overlap, this wouldn’t be a problem. If there is some overlap…we’ll work something out best we can. I really do not want to draft on that Saturday, because the college games will be starting…but maybe Sunday or Monday if needed.

One thing I noticed is that apparently Yahoo has a limited number of draft slots available for each start time (which appear to be staggered in 15 minute intervals), so that may be a complicating factor…

Woops, I missed the central time part, I thought you meant eastern and it’d be 1:15 between drafts.

Anyway, it’ll hurt your recruitment more than anything so I was just giving you a friendly heads up. A lot of people play in multiple leagues, but the all-pro league is old and established, so none of the 12 from there (who are amongst the most active and best of sdmb FFers) will be able to join your league also.

You wouldn’t need to draft on a Friday, every wednesday is open, all mondays but labor day, etc.

I made a mistake in that original schedule post - Sep 1 is a thursday. I had the date/time right, just mislabelled the day.

My biggest concern right now is doing something else blatantly dumb…like the 3 QB thing. I suspect that there are other potential pitfalls for the rookie commish out there, so input from anybody is most welcome.

The draft issue can be worked out, as needed. Kinda wondering what happens if the lockout continues long enough to delay the season start date…I do not think any rookies have been signed yet, and I’ve seen reports of a flurry of trades/free agent signings happening as soon as it is possible…

I’m in. I’ve only played 3 leagues over 2 years. This will by far be the highest scoring league I’ve played: 2QB’s, PPR, PP Pass, counting return yards. I’m looking forward to it.

Do the return yards count both for the individual player and DST?

Just a heads up: with 14 teams and 2 QBs per, that means you need to start 28 QBs every week. However, some weeks have 6 NFL teams on bye, which means there will be only 26 starting QBs and there will be some empty slots, and a lot of weeks have 4 teams on bye, which means that unless the starters are distributed perfectly (which they won’t be) you’ll have empty QB slots those weeks as well. I’d personally suggest going down to 12 teams, unless you decide that not having enough QBs to go around is just going to be part of the game.

I’m not married to the idea of 14 teams. Kinda picked that number on the theory that I didn’t want to have to turn people away…but I think any even number of teams will work.

Dropped maximum number of teams to 12

Changed QB/WR/RB/TE to WR/RB/TE

We have 5 teams so far. My team is the Darnassus Druids

Chicago 46ers. “Monsters of the Midway” was two characters too long. Can’t wait.

We’re up to 6 players now, with room for 6 more.

Any issues with a total rookie joining (assuming there’s still spots open)? I’ve never played Fantasy Football but I wanted to start this year. Figure every league could use a 2008 Detroit Lions.

No issues whatsoever, and there’s still 6 spots open, so welcome aboard.

Alright, I’m in. Right now I’m The Lorem Ipsums, because I couldn’t think of a name. That might change.
