OK for all you 80’s fans who haven’t heard, TNT is bringing back the classic show “DALLAS” next summer. STarring Larry Hagman and Patrick Duffy, along with younger actors playing their sons, the story of Ewing Oil, and Southfork ranch will continue.
Right now, as per IMDB; JR, Booby, Sue Ellen, Ray Krebs, and Lucy, are all characters coming back (played by the original actors) .
What actors or characters from the show would you love to see come back?
Personally I think they should totally bring back “Jenna Wade” played by Priscilla Presely.
Is “Booby” Victoria Principal? Because I had a major crush on her. I sure hope Cliff come back. Kercheval is 75 so he is getting on up in years. Hagman is going to be 80 in September and IIRC, not in great health so I can’t see him having a big role in the mini-series.
I would guess the show will center around John Ross and Christopher as the original stars are kind of old these days. Hagman is going to be 80 in September and IIRC, not in great health so I can’t see him having a big role in the mini-series. Gray is 70, Duffy is 62, Kanaly is 65, Kercheval is 75 and Tilton is 52 . Going by when they were born in the series John Ross would be about 30 and Christopher a year or two younger so it would be pretty easy to focus story-lines around them.
Please do not bring back Afton GAG but if they do, don’t let her sing GAG.
Heh. this publicity still (of the sons of J.R. & Bobby) has such a “Brokeback Mountain” feel to it. I just imagine the two actors doing a slooow turnaround to face each other, and then kissing passionately.
What the hell? Lucy Ewing got wild & woolly with her uncle Ray (Ok, she didn’t know he was her uncle at the time, but I think Ray did.)
I hope this won’t rely upon people remembering 1980s Dallas, since people much younger than 40 won’t. Since it was on after my bedtime until the very last season all I know about the original is that some Texas oil guy named J.R. was mysteriously shot, something which was later parodied in the Simpsons.
LOL, Jesse Meltcalf in a gay kiss…as a gay man I would pay major amounts of money for that… PS the writers didn’t know in the first season that Ray Krebs was going to be Jock illegitimate son, so you have to excuse them for being creepy
I’m exactly 40 and grew up in the Dallas area (Garland). I didn’t watch it (except for the J.R.-gets-shot episode) but knew quite a bit about it via “water cooler osmosis”, and recall thinking that it was a 100% local show–completely produced AND viewed only in the Metroplex. I was naively stunned slightly later in life to discover that it was popular not just throughout the USA, but the world… “Really? You’ve seen Dallas?”
The movie connections on IMDB don’t show anything after the show ended but a TV-movie in 2000. Are you perhaps thinking of Titans which got compared to Dallas, or the canadian show Wild Roses?
Maybe I am thinking of the movie - if that was one that dealt mostly with the grown up kids of JR and Bobby. Perhaps there were rumors it would be turned into a TV show? At any rate, if it was the movie then it was pretty weak and I remember thinking it was a pale imitation of the series.
That is why I have at least some hope for this new series - with so many of the old cast returning. Even if they just set up the stories and are not main characters, it will still keep the series somewhat authentic. We’ll see how the writing goes.
Plus, after it was revealed that Ray was Jock’s son, they just never mentioned the Lucy/Ray dalliance again and pretty much pretended it never happened.
And I seem to recall that on one of the commentary tracks for the first season DVDs, the writers mentioned that when the show went into syndication they also cut out all the scenes and mentions of the fling.
