Who actually shot JR?

No really, who did? Dallas was before my time and I’ve never watched it before.

Kristen, Suellen’s sister. played by the lovely Mary Crosby did it. I don’t remember why.

Jeez, do I feel old.

My memory is a bit hazy, but wasn’t it:

his sister-in-law?

It was a dream.

It was Bobby’s death that was a dream.

My bad.

Yeah, Kristin (sue Elllen’s sister) shot JR.

But that’s not why I posted in this thread.

“Dallas” is one of the best series of all time. In the top 10 shows of all time.

It wasn’t pretty in those last few years, but when they were ON, the were ON!

There was always a “wink’ or a 'tongue in cheek” factor, in addition to one of the best casts ever, who actually played it "straight.’ And the mix made the show a classic.

It was a blend of serious and camp at the same time that never exsistited before, and I don’t has ever been created since.

Ivyglass is correct, but wasn’t he shot another time? Sometime later in the series or am I just making that up?

I remember it as being either Maggie Simpson or Jessica Rabbit.

Bobby was shot and for a time the big mystery was “Who tried to shoot J.R. (again) but got Bobby instead?” and it was around that time that my scant interest evaporated completely.

I go by “J.R.” and was going through elementary school when Dallas was big. And so, without ever having watched a single episode, I can hold forth on the show for a good seventeen seconds, which is more than enough to bore the crap out of people my age, most of whom haven’t seen it.

But then I went to France where they watch it in reruns, and introduced myself as zhee-air and tried to translate my holding-forth (about 27 seconds in French, with pauses) and found that I was home-staying with a rabid fan.

Longest week of my life.

Thanks, I’ll be going now.

Gee thanks zhee-air, now I’ve got the French theme tune to Dallas is embedded in my brain for the first time in years and it won’t go away!. :dubious:

Yes, as Jurph found out to his cost, the French have a love for Dallas that defies all expectations. The opening theme tune is different, and has lyrics :

Dallas, your pitiless universe
Dallas, glorifies the law of the strongest
Dallas, and under your relentless sun
Dallas, you fear only death

[Click on the purple speaker icon next to the text “Télécharge cette sonnerie sur ton portable!” (i.e. “download this ringtone to your cell phone”) on the linked web page to hear a MIDI of the French theme tune].

There seems to be an unwritten law that any reference in the French press to the city of Dallas must include a reference to the “impitoyable” (pitiless) nature of the city, even if it’s in reference to a basketball game.

What? They changed the THEME in France? Why-that’s the best part of Dallas!

That’s funny, because I went to England with my parents the summer after the Who Shot JR? cliffhanger ending and everyone there also wanted to know what was going on with the show. They were all fascinated by it but the broadcasts there were months or even a whole season behind.

I think the ranch on which the show was filmed was and may still be a big tourist attraction for Europeans. (And actually, as I grew up in suburban Connecticut, the idea of living on a huge ranch like that was foreign to me as well.)

My office is about 20 minutes from Southfork and they host the Taste of Plano each year. Included in the price of your TOP ticket is admission to the museum and tour of J.R.'s house. Every time I’ve taken the tour most of the tourists were European.
