Alright, sorry for the late posting of this thread. I was going to get around to asking if we wanted to keep this league going as-is, or rework it somehow, but it’s getting late in the season. Overall this league has been pretty challenging, but it hasn’t encouraged the sort of extracurricular participation I was hoping for. I think we may be oversaturated for FF and it’s hard to invest a lot of shit talking/reviews/discussions/whatever in all our different leagues.
Do we want to keep running this league as-is, or perhaps rework it in some way?
Here’s my proposal, but we’d have to figure out the details. I want to redraft throughout the year. Drafts are fun, the situation with players changes throughout the year, and it’d be interesting to essentially have 4 quarters of football all added together. We’d draft before week 1, before week 5, before week 8, and before week 12. Playoffs in this format doesn’t make as much sense but I guess we could go with it. A points league where each quarter is added up into a total makes the most sense. We’d only have to get 6 guys together for a draft, so it’d be relatively easy. Problem is finding a way to actually do this - yahoo stops drafting at some point in the year. Are there other sites that let you draft all the way through week 12? Or can we use some sort of mock draft app and manually enter the results into yahoo?
Anyway, I’m open to other ideas. Are we interested in running this league again?
Also, I screwed us by getting this started so late. We need to vote and send out invites to replace Munch, but most people are already committed. In the event that we can’t find a reasonable replacement I think Munch is interested in playing again. If that happens, my bad.
I’d be up for the redrafting, but I think its too late in the process to get it figured out. I want to do this league this season (its the only alternative league I’m in, as all the others are relatively the same), so if that means leaving everything the same until next season I am fine with that.
I have found myself with less time to prepare this year, and, were I completely honest, a bit less excitement for so many leagues.
I am intrigued by the quarterly draft idea and would have no problem adopting it, but I also think it’s a bit late in the game to change it up for this year. However, I’m up for anything the group agrees with.
Well, this league is small and flexible and full of engaged players, so we don’t need a ton of notice to get something viable going or make big changes.
We’re going to have some issue replacing munch this year though, fantasy recruitment/interest is way down this year, and I got the ball rolling late on this compounding the problem - we can enter votes to see who we should invite, but no idea who might actually accept.
Okay, so between fantasy interest being way down this year and starting this league too late, we don’t have time to go through our normal recruitment process. So instead I’m going to see who’s interested from the recruitment thread, and we can vote on which of the interested players should join the league. In the event that no one is interested, even though it goes against the spirit of the league, Munch can come back if he’s interested.
I reserved a provisional draft date of Wednesday Sep 4 at 9pm eastern. Tell me if there’s a problem with this. Last year IIRC we actually drafted after week 1 and it was interesting/different from the other leagues - the regular cheat sheets went out the window after the action of season 1. I’d be interested in doing that again actually. Tell me what you guys want.
So hey, do we want to do the draft tomorrow as it’s currently scheduled, or should we do the post week 1 draft like we did last year? Personally I think the latter is more interesting, cheat sheets go out the window, and it gives us a different experience than all the other drafts we’ve done so far. Maybe next Wednesday? Chime in soon obviously.
I’m in favor if keeping things as-is for this year, keeping Munch for a year and drafting tomorrow.
Open to new creative ideas, but like most everyone else real life seems to be really kicking my ass this summer making Fantasy a challenge to squeeze in. For that reason, working through changes to the format seems like a headache I’d prefer to defer until next year.
I vote on keeping the draft time where it is since Ive already moved things around to do this tonight. I would have no problem with doing it after week one otherwise.
I’m available tonight, and may not be next week. I’m flexible on changing the rules, maybe a two QB league? IDP? Allowing pilfering of players off other rosters. As my eldest daughter says: “whatev’s”.
Well let’s go tonight and consider the redraft idea. It’s only 6 of us, and we’re all active, so we can be pretty flexible about making stuff up as we go. Maybe if we work on some way to do it, we’ll redraft in a month.
Darth Sensitive had an interesting idea - if we’re going to do periodic redrafts, mix it up. Do snake one, and auction the next. Change the positions. Change the scoring. Maybe use IDP sometimes and not others. Basically separate them into 4 different mini-competitions with various fantasy settings that would force us to devise and plan for each sort, and then add them all up into an overall result. It’s an interesting idea.
That sounds pretty interesting, but Yahoo locks certain settings once drafting is complete. We would need to look elsewhere like a pay custom-league site.
But I’m all for it.
Given the nature of our draft, we should really all be on voice chat. I think we all were last year. Instructions. Show up a half hour before the draft (about 50 minutes) to work out any kinks with it before the draft starts. If anything has come up, and someone can’t make it, tell me now while I still have time to reschedule the draft.
Draft is open… after everyone chiming in that they were available tonight, we better have everyone here… hop on now, and hop on mumble. There are iOS/Android mumble clients if you can’t work it on your pc for whatever reason.
