Fictional Vacations #1-comic books

You’ve got a one month vacation coming up, but you have to spend it in a comic book universe-DC, Marvel, Image etc. Which comic world do you choose, and where in that world do you go to for your vacation? What fictional sites do you want to hit, and who do you hope to see?

Hmmm…I wonder if Eurail goes through Latveria?

Any 80’s or 70’s comic book. Nowadays there’s a lot of killing - half - the population - of - Earth scenarios.

It was no better back then, I think. What about Dukberg?

You beat me to it (unless you meant some European variation with that spelling)

Duckberg, in the state of Calisota, not only features a view of Scrooge’s Money Vault on Killmotor Hill, but it’s more scientifically advanced, and you can rent rocket ships. Or maybe visit Atlantis, or various underworlds.

My only problem would be all those characters with the black jelly-bean noses. Or duck beaks.

Or numbers on their shirts.

Put me down for Richville and a chance to meet Richie Rich.

“Find a Krugerrand and pick it up, and all day long you’ll have good luck”, right? Give Dollar a pat for me, o.k.?

Hell, I’m hoping to find Dollar running around loose so I can return him to Richie. If he just happens to be inclined to give me a nice reward, so much the better…

Best return on a “Dollar” you’ll ever come across.

Hmmm. I think I’d have to go for a month up at The Farm, in the Fables universe. I like the animal Fables the best anyhow, and things tend to be a bit more relaxed up there than down in Manhattan. Be a nice month, chillin’ with the Pigs, the Bears, and Stinky the Badger (assuming he’s stopped being a religious fanatic; I’m a bit behind). If I could do a little bit of traveling, visiting various Homelands would be interesting.

If we were talking only a week–or maybe just a weekend–the world of Elephantmen would be interesting. Think Blade Runner, but with various anthropomorphic African animals around. (Who were genetically engineered as supersoldiers in an absolutely horrible world war, but they’re just normal citizens now.) Needless to say, as with Blade Runner–it’d be an interesting future to visit, but I sure as hell wouldn’t want to live there, or even spend an entire month there.

My other current reads (Saga, Manhattan Projects, Hawk[del]guy[/del]eye) don’t really even have a shot. Saga’s the honorable mention, but that universe is just a bit too… warry for me. Maybe if I could choose a planet that’s currently peaceful, like where the writer-guy lived.

For myself, I think I’d go for the Marvelverse. After a week in New York looking at various superhero buildings and whoever happens to swing, fly or surf overhead, I would definitely spend some time in Latveria. The people are polite, the crime rate is practically nonexistent, and I hear Doomstadt has a spring festival that draws rave reviews from all who attend.

Silver Age DC Universe. Anyone from “Earth Prime” automatically gets powers and abilities far beyond those of normal men. I might try hooking up with Zatanna.

Racist.

Nitpick: Duckburg, not Duckberg. It’s a town, not a mountain.

Duckburg would be interesting. I’d hang out with Gyro for awhile, camp out in the extensive forests they seem to have nearby, and swing by Grandma’s farm if I had time.

Still, I think I’d prefer one of the comics where, as Steve Dallas from Bloom County put it, all the women look like Dolly Parton in zero gravity.

Riverdale, with Archie & the kids.

Nice & restful, assuming Archie’s stumbling doesn’t put me in the hospital.

Elliot S! Maggin did not get any powers.

Do Playboy cartoons count as a comic book? How about “Little Annie Fanny”?

“Little Annie Fanny” doesn’t count…but “Cherry Poptart” does.
