Is "Peaches" A Stripper Name?

There’ve been a few porn stars named Peaches (cite: iafd.com, not gonna link to it), including a popular Hungarian girl-only actress who works a lot with Viv Thomas, so I could see it being a stripper name as well.

I’m a big fan of the latest album by the singer mentioned earlier, though it’s a little less raunchy than her prior stuff. (She’s a bit more commercial now, too… she’s even featured on Christina Aguilera’s new album.)

One thing I’ve always wondered… why Peaches as a name? Why plural?

In Arsenic and Old Lace the mother of Officer O’Hara, the young cop that wants to be a writer is named Peaches LaTour, and the rough connotation gleaned through the various conversations where she is mentioned, is that she is a burlesque performer [she is an “actress” but not on Broadway] and she gave birth to him during a performance of Mutt and Jeff, and managed to make it back onstage for the finale.

In Duffy’s Tavern, his exfiance is Peaches LaTour, also a stripper who calls off the engagement.

How could Peaches be a regular name?

Definitely a stripper (or porn) name.

Stripper name. Right up there with Bambi and Chastity.

I think it sounds like a stripper name. Ironically, though, the only person I’ve ever known who had that nickname was a guy.

Yes it is, or a hooker, so she got the better version of what it sounds like.

And Amber.

The one Peaches I know is a Radical Faerie from Ottawa.

I remember when I was very young having a super-duper crush on the lead character in an old TV show called “BJ and the Bear” (truck driver and a chimp… told you it was stupid). He had two co-stars named Peaches and Brandi - stereotypical brainless bimbos.

Total stripper name.

I can see it being a stripper name, and I wonder why she’d choose to be called that. My given name sounds like a stripper name, too, but at least I didn’t pick it out. I spent most of my life hating my name and have come around to liking it (or maybe just accepting it) just in the last few years.

Even on the off chance it’s a given name (IMO) an adult woman would not typically use that name socially unless they kind of liked the associated context of the name which is (for many people) somewhat sexualized.

If it were her given name, what do you suggest she do? Make up a new one and use it instead? By the time you’re an adult, you get used to whatever name you’ve been using your whole life, or at least I did. Comments and jokes don’t matter much once you grow up and you’ve heard them all.

I was speaking to the OP’s referenced name “Peaches”. Per your prior note about having a highly sexualized name, yes, if it bothers you that much simply choose a nickname. People do it everyday.

I will admit I’m curious re your moniker as I’m having trouble thinking of a real given name that can compete with “Peaches” in terms of being being sexualized.

Here are the top 50 stripper names. I assume it’s one of those.

Yup, I tend to think bimbo, not stripper.

OTOH, the only real Peaches I ever heard of was the female in the Peaches & Herb singing duo.

the guys in the shower after practice call me peaches

If everyone calls you “Peaches” you are either a stripper or a poodle.

My name is in the top half of that list, yes. I guess your first post makes it sound like there’s something wrong with an adult woman going by her given name if it’s a highly sexualized name; like the only reason she would is BECAUSE it’s sexualized. I absolutely agree that if someone doesn’t like their name, they should change it, but deciding not to do that doesn’t necessarily mean anything.
At any rate, the woman in the OP’s given name seems to be Mary.

It’s a tennis player’s name.
