What is Natalie Portman's real last name?

Natalie Portman's real last name is so shrouded in mystery it just makes me a little bit curious. Does anybody out there know what it is?

One of my roommates went to school with her. He didn't like her very much; he's the only person I know who carries a personal grudge against Luke Skywalker's mother.

He's gone for a few days but I'll ask him about it when he gets back.

I'm pretty sure I've read her last name before, although she changed it for privacy, and I don't think it rolls off the tongue quite as easily as Portman. Daniel, your friend isn't the only one with a grudge. My friend's cousin got cold shouldered by Natalie at a Beverly Hills cafe, until the actress realised she was trying to take her order, not ask for an autograph. Then she (my friend's cousin) and her coworkers were laughing and going on "Wowww. You were unforgettable in, um, what was it? Anywhere but Where the Heart Is? Yeahhh. Can I touch you?" when they thought Natalie'd left, but she was in the bathroom (for at least part of the conversation).

Boy, you wanna have some fun, try reading Natalie Portman fan sites for fifteen minutes trying to answer that question. Coy, coy coy.

"I am going to respect Natalie's privacy by not printing her real name. Here, however are her geeky high school yearbook photos."

There's a whole nyah-nyah-nyah, "I know and you don't" overtone that I unfairly transfer to the actress. Bad Myron, bad.

Anyway, I know and you don't.

I know someone with a grudge against Natalie Portman, too. She went to summer camp with Ms. Amidala and says she's the biggest bitch she's ever met. Maybe we should start a "Who here knows someone with a grudge against Natalie Portman?" thread.

Oh well, she's too young for me anyway. (Yeah, like I'd have a shot!)

I have a book about Ewan McGregor and it says that he wasn't too fond of Ms. Portman either-that she expected to be treated like a major movie star.

Found it. You just gotta know what to search for. But now that I've found it, I dunno if I should give it away.

Way to ruin it for me, jerk-ass. You could have put spoiler warnings on that post.

I guess now I'll cancel that order of the replica yearbook that I just placed.

Dark Helmet: Before you die there is something you should know about us, Lone Star.
Lone Star: What?
Dark Helmet: I am your father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate.
Lone Star: What's that make us?
Dark Helmet: Absolutely nothing! Which is what you are about to become.

Had to be done. Sorry.

Funny, I think she is really pretty. I always pictured that I wouldn't like her as she would be ultra-nice, not that she would be a bitch. Ah, well, I knew I wouldn't like her one way or another. But is it just me or what—I almost expect stars to be pissy to people from getting nagged all the time. Hell, I was just a manager at McDonalds and I got tired of putting up with people. I couldn't imagine being famous. Gah. (though, somehow I think I'd manage )

Now, just so long as no one tells me anything about Monica Keena or Alyson Hannigan I'll be alright. I'd like to obsess about them without hearing anything bad (or good, which would only make it worse!)

Damn Natalie. You know, I hear she attends Harvard, and every time I drive by there I am always looking a little too keenly. Some day I am going to hit a friggin pedestrian!

Yeah, I obsess about stars. Yeah, I obsess about not knowing anything about the stars I obsess over so I may continue to obsess overthem without reality messing things up. So what?

Privacy my ass. If my last name was Hershlag, I'd adopt a stage name too.

As to her allegedly being a bitch... of course, she's 19 years old and a major movie star. It'd go to my head, too. In ten years she'll probably be a nicer person.

And academically brilliant, incredibly talented, classically beautiful, praised since 12 years old, fantastically wealthy, and in the new Star Wars movies.

If I was her, I'd be a snob too.

I'd read somewhere the reason she kept her name shrouded in secrecy was not so much about her privacy, but rather that of her father who is apparently a famous heart surgeon.

However, I did read it in one of these celebrity magazines which are, of course, noted for their diligent research and accuracy, so it could just be utter nonsense, and I'm not going to trouble Google over it...

Her fame is something I don't understand... I think she is just the plainest looking girl. I mean, nothing about her is really striking. She looks like a Hershlag to me.

Alison Hannigan too. I think she is really plain. No lips. And I just *know* her hair isn't really red.

Guess it's a good thing I'm not a dude.

That's why I like them: they are plain. I like "plain", average looking girls.

And, no: her hair is not naturally red.

Oh, okay. Thanks.

Several people have compared her to Audrey Hepburn-in looks, I think she could pull it off, (at least better than Jennifer Love Screwitt!)

And she is a good actress.

But I've heard she's not the nicest person around.

Oh well.

Word, bwk. She's one of those actresses that nobody really cares about except the critics/media. She isn't incredibly gorgeous or interesting, and if I didn't know her father was a doctor, I'd say he owned a few teen magazines or produced Entertainment Tonight.
As for Audrey Hepburn, I believe Orson Welles dismissed her as "The patron saint of anorexics"...

Dem's fightin' words!

Audrey Hepburn was NOT anorexic, all right? Perhaps you should do a little research before you throw things like that around!

(Yes, Welles said it, but dammit, I'm sick and tired of everyone assuming naturally thin people are anorexic. In Audrey's case, I believe it had more to do with her genetics-she came from a family of thin people-and certain factors in her life: malnutrition during WWII causing colitis that would later manifest itself into the colon cancer that killed her; the fact that she was a ballet dancer and her smoking habit. Audrey was NOT ANOREXIC!!!)

(Hey, he said she was the patron saint, which doesn't technically mean she was ano herself. I mean, I seriously doubt if St. Joseph of Cupertino was very involved with the safety of air travelers during his life, but that's what he's been stuck with.)

Compared to Orson Welles, practically goddam everybody is anorexic. He probably still weighs more than both Hepburn and Portman combined.

That's exactly what I was thinking looking at that page. I think I need to move to Syosset.

Where exactly is that?

I know! He must have had those suckers pinned back; either that or he keeps that 'fro of his to hide them.

As for Nat, I have a friend who went to high school with her. She said she's not a bitch, just a "plain Jane" as she put it. Nothing much too her, very quiet, and unassuming. I was surprised to here Ewan called her a prima donna, but not that surprised - she does have a lot going for her (but her performance in TPM was pathetic -- acting requires some show of emotion beyond cracking a thin smile every 45 minutes). I think she is a hottie though.

With all the people who know someone who knows "Nat", I'm starting to think that she's in the running to displace Kevin Bacon. However, the "six degrees of Natalie Herschlag" doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

Okay, so I'm Natalie Hershlag, and I wanna be a big movie star, but I just KNOW my last name is gonna hold me back. So I want to change it to something cool, something trendy, something the hep-cats will identify with. And I come up with "Portman"?

Somebody explain this logic to me.

The mere mention of her name wipes all my petty worries away for some few moments.

But she could be called Gertrude Pissshagwank for all I care. As long as the name refers to that girl I will delight at it's mention.

As for stories of her snotty attitude. That doesn't surprise me much. But then I am up for a challenge!

I'm pretty sure I heard somewhere that Portman was her grandmother's last name, and that's where she got it from. No source to back that up, though.
