Jericho 3/25 finale

I believe it’s a series finale, folks, not just a season finale.

THAT was fucking awesome. Great way to end it. Just a damn shame it won’t continue.

If the first season was paced as well as these last few episodes we would be enjoying Jericho for a few more seasons. They spent an overwhelming time on marriage breakups and interpersonal relationships and took too much time detailing the characters’ backgrounds. Although I watched all the episodes, I spent much of the time fast forwarding through the drivel to get the 3 minutes of details about the “big picture”. I understood the producers need to get us to feel that this was just a normal town, with normal problems, but move it along please…

That said, I really enjoyed the last 7 episodes. Sorry to see it go.

Yeah, I’m sorry to see it go, too. I understand the ratings weren’t good enough, and that’s what drives the business, but Jericho could have gone forward from this finale.

With Texas throwing in with Columbus and a new civil war coming, only an East-West war this time, it really would have been interesting to see which way things would go. Especially with Beck and his men throwing off the chain of command from Cheyenne. Would they defect to the Columbus-governed side, or would they become insurgents within the Allied States?

It would have been interesting to keep the show going on. It’s too bad the viewers didn’t come back.

We enjoyed it last night. Thought it was a good ending, quite surprised that it was that good really. It would have been a much better show over all had they cut all the relationship stuff out. That’s why we stopped watching the middle of the first season.

Yes, I was mistaken. By ending the bomb arc, the writers opened the possibility of a series about the second American Civil War. The Scifi channel could pick this puppy up. It would be better than much of their original programming.

Too bad Constantine didn’t take a dirt bath.

My husband and I were pleased with the finale, but we both had hoped to see more of Daniel Benzali (the evil Homeland Security guy, Valente). Ever since Murder One, we’ve been big Daniel Benzali fans, and a good scenery-chewing death scene (or some sort of satisfying takedown) for Valente would’ve been dandy.

I thought the ending was very weak. There were many published reports that there were two different shows available for broadcast. One if renewed, one if not. This episode just didn’t answer any questions. It was so-so OK if it had been the end of season episode but truly lame if it was the end of series episode.

Not much ypu can do in a single episode; I thought it was very good under the circumstances, and they didn’t kill any possibilty of a return like Deep Space Nine or Above and Beyond.

How so? How did it not answer any questions? What questions were LEFT to be answered?

For me, it was not unanswered questions but how perfectly smooth ‘like in a dream’ everything went at the end.

There’s Hawkins and Jake and bomb at the Texas embassy, with seriously PO soldiers at the gates.

Next scene, H & J & Bomb are at the airport. With not a single Texan support person in sight. With the plane all gassed up and ready to go, the bomb loaded. So clearly they were there for at least a while. Then there’s time for J to do his noble ‘leave me and go’ speech, and for J to override him and force him onto the plane. (Hah. Like he would have had a chance to ‘force’ H anywhere that fast. All H needed to do was go limp and fall down, and J would have had zero chance.)

And only THEN do the bad guys show up. And, of course, none of them bothered to even try to stop the take off.

Next scene, Jake is almost all the way to the Texas border, when the bad guy jets finally show up. Do we want to discuss the difference in speed between military jets and a little Cessna? No?

And the, of course, the cavalry comes over the hill at precisely the right time. And apparently the bad guy’s radars aren’t working either, because they clearly made no attempt to react.

And then they’re safely on the land, and the Governor(?) of Texas is instantly sold that everything these refugees are saying is true, and now the forces of good will unite and inevitably deal with the Haliburton rotters.
Just way too many convenient bits, one after another.

You know what I"d have liked? Have the Texas governor say, “Thanks for the bomb. We’ve loaded it onto one of our planes, and we’ll detonate it over Laramie within 30 minutes. Sorry about the effect it will have on Jericho, but cutting the head off that government will save thousands of lives in the long run.”

Final shot, Jake standing there with his mouth hanging open.

Yeah, it was a little eye-rolly at times, but I think the writers did about as well as they could have, considering the circumstances. It played more like a recap episode than as part of the narrative. I enjoyed it, though, and I like the idea of leaving it somewhat open ended for one of the cable channels (like SciFi) to pick up the pieces.

I knew for the time they introduced his character that Beck was going to turn out to be one of the good guys.

They only had an hour. It wasn’t like there was time for too many complications.

I’d only seen a few episodes before, but tuned in just to see how they’d wrap it up. StarvingButStrong makes some excellent points. I agree it seemed 'way too rushed by the end. I’d also guess that gutshot black secret agent would’ve died long before landing in Texas.

Nah, he’s tough.

He wouldn’t stand a chance against Jack Bauer, though.

Depends upon how much Jack’s been drinkin’.

…and hey, Jack gets a nuke in a plane, it blows up. BSA gets a nuke in a plane, it gets delivered. Of course, it did take two of them.

I finally watched the last couple of episodes. I can see how this is a series finale, because the next season would have been about the civil war, and Jericho really is out of the scope. They got their mayor back, the J&R troops are going to leave town, and there’s no undercover terrorist hiding out there, so what more is there to be done? I would also find too far unrealistic for Jake and Hawkins to continue to play a role in the third season, particularly with this civil war. It was a great show while it lasted (except for the soap operay stuff), but I am ready to say goodbye.
