For the opportunity to read The Tales of Beedle the Bard :
Harry Potter fans get your quill pens and ink ready to vie for a chance to spend quality time with an oh so rare copy of J.K. Rowling’s handwritten stories, The Tales of Beedle the Bard (Lest I remind you there are only 7 copies of this book?), and the company of security guards. Amazon.com is offering fans a chance to do just that by entering its Beedle the Bar Ballad Writing Contest (Amazon.com: fd_redirect , Amazon.co.uk: fd_redirect ). OK, here is the scoop, first off to enter you have to be 13+, hey I’m just telling you the rules I don’t make them up. Moving on, participants will need to submit a creative submission, in English, of 100 or fewer words answering one of the following questions:
What songs do wizards use to celebrate birthdays?
What other sports do wizards play besides Quidditch?
What have you learned from the Harry Potter series that you use in everyday life?
Submissions will be accepted now through April 22, with winners chosen in two categories, Tweens/Teens 13-17, and People 18+. On May 5, Amazon will post the semi-finalists from both demos, and then will ask its customers to vote for their favorite. The contest is open to customers in 24 countries, including the US, UK, Germany, Japan, China and Canada. But that ain’t all folks, the winner gets to wear a lovely pair of white gloves while visiting with the book. How kind to provide guards and gloves, this will greatly reduce concerns of paper cuts.
I’ve already given my daughter an idea…we’re going to work on it this weekend.
This makes me sad (for me) and glad (for the lucky winners-to-be) at the same time. I’ve read quite a bit of fanfic based on HP, and some of the writers are really talented. There’s no way in hell I’d ever be able to write something good enough to win. But man, I do so wish I could read that book!
