Daniel Craig appeared as a guest on Jay Leno a few days before the US opening of “Skyfall”. He showed a clip where 007 goes to Buckingham Palace to see the queen, played by Her Majesty herself! They both leave the palace and board a helicopter and then fly out over the ocean, where they both bail out from the helo and open 'chutes that depict the Union Jack. Leno and Craig comment on what a good sport the queen is to appear in the movie.
But guess what? This scene is NOT in the movie. Does anyone know the story behind this scene? I’m asking for replies from those who KNOW, not for speculation, which I can do on my own.
So why *didn’t *you speculate on your own? Googling the phrase “007 goes to Buckingham Palace” (which you used in your OP) returns a number of links that go directly to the explanation of the scene you saw - that it was for the 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony.
Incidentally, regarding 007, the International Spy Museum in Washington DC is opening a 50 year retrospective on the Bond films, and they seem to be using it for some Education-by-Stealth about real spies. It’s suppposed to be in place for two years, so I’ll stop in when I’m in DC this winter for a conference.
Let’s speculate what it might have been from, then:
I think it is not actually a fake bit, but a leaked video revealing that not only is James Bond real, but he looks just like Daniel Craig and the Queen knows.
TV trickery. They filmed her get in the helicopter, they filmed her in the helicopter. They filmed someone in a pink dress jump out of the helicopter and parachute into the stadium. Then the Queen walked in up at her booth.
The biggest tell - the shots with the queen were in daylight, but the jump happened at night.
From what I could tell from watching the opening ceremonies, both the queen and Craig had body doubles from the moment they left the room in the palace. I don’t recall, was Daniel Craig even at the ceremonies or just the queen?
Actually, I think the only earlier-filmed parts that actually featured the Queen were in her office when she greeted “Mr. Bond,” and when she walked down the hallway with him. Everything after that, including the long shot as she goes out the door to the Palace’s backyard, and when she climbs into the helicopter, you don’t see her face.
