Today I had the urge to contact Colibri, who I know is a mod for GQ, about a particular thread, not as a mod-related event per se, and I sent a Paging Colibri via the “report post” button, instead of PM’ing him. Aside from the fact that it would be weird (though not unthinkable) to use that button for an individual mod, it certainly wasn’t appropriate here.
Teach me here, would you?: a while ago, in a thread some time ago (my OP, I think) we talked about who mods what, areas/forums of familiarity of each, and how on occasion everyone covers for everyone.
But for this query: in an initial Report Post, is that sent to a loop of only the mods listed for that forum?
I also just want to know the next time if I screw up how many people’s time I’ve wasted…
Reported posts get sent by email only to mods of that forum. A separate thread is created in the mod forums that all mods can view if they choose. Some of us peruse all the reports, and do so in the event there needs to be coverage.
There are also discussion threads about specific topics we may be interested in within the mod loop. Some are started from poster questions and others are mod initiated.
If you have a question of a specific mod, pm or email works as direct communication.
The “Report” button is really to notify the mods of that forum that a post or thread requires moderation. The “report” button sends reports to all the mods of that forum. It shouldn’t really be used to contact an individual mod as a poster, since PMs and email is available for that.
The “report” button also sends a report to a subforum that all the moderators of all forums can see. However, we would have to actually go to that subforum to see them. I usually don’t unless the report is on a cross-forum issue that the moderators are discussing.
Maybe that inter-forum forum should receive nominations from the individual-forum mods of most annoying Report Post and at the end of the year post winners.
(I know that’s a joke, SD being a community and all, and not into public humiliation.)
Since you mention it, Bone was a newbie to me, at least since this thread. I haven’t looked into this forum for a while, so I missed The Presentation to the Peons.
Easiest way to view moderators for each forum is the “view forum leaders” link at the bottom of the forum list. It lists all current mods and their assigned forums.
I am assigned to Great Debates and Elections. (the best forums :))
