I’m there with ya, Cap, Cranky. Dissertations is but weak reeds compared to the SDMB.
And Ferrous? Hitting 1k’s worth of posts won’t be nearly the accomplishment getting all our groups to finish their stories will be.

Don’t dispair about the dissertation; sometimes noodling around can give you enough distance and perspective to have good ideas for the writing that has a piece of paper at the end of it. I’d never have finished my thesis without the Web, since most of my source materials were in Russia and wouldn’t otherwise have been accessible, since I didn’t have a few years to go digging around government archives in Moscow. Yay Internet!
