I was going to flame you, with the typical “Bah! 13 inches, you would never survive a Canadian winter!”…then I saw you live in Wisconsin…
I’ve spent much of the day repairing winter coats and pants – bring on the snow!
As Rascal’s Mom stated for last year we had 101.4 inches fall. That’s over 2.5 meters.
Unfortunately my hands and feet are still all screwed up. Once I trigger the swelling it takes a long time to go away.
What is “snow”?
We got hit with an ice storm here–trees bowed to the ground or broken off, power out all over. I just talked to my friend whose tree fell and pulled the power lines off his house.
My power was out when I left the house this morning and I hope it’s back on or it will be a chilly evening/weekend.
You see, the thing about snow is that it permits skiing. And skiing is better than sex.
So if you’ll excuse me, I have a ski lift to catch in 13 minutes, for an eveing of fun in the snow.
So, ****Harmonious Discord[**B], are you with me that the snow skiing people aren’t on the same wavelength as you and I are?
Sorry, had to put that out there.
No disrespect intended.
blink I live in the same town as Santo Rugger, but I live up on a mountainside, and we got maybe an inch this week. I love the insane, ridiculously localized precipitation that you can get out here. This past summer we had a apocalyptic-style rainstorm, which dumped about an inch and a half of rain within the space of an hour, no exaggeration. But that day’s report from one of the official weather monitoring stations in town included no precipitation, because it didn’t rain on that side of town. At all (and I know, because I was sitting outside for a bit, waiting for a bus and quite literally watching the rainstorm down the road).
Anyway. Send your snow out here; just go ahead and address it to NinjaChick, c/o Ye Old Mountainside. I haven’t been able to build a snowman this year, which is totally unacceptable.
My hate is based on decades of having to remove the stuff and be to work even if there are drifts over my car and that has happened 3 times. For years I had to spend almost the entire snow day removing snow at work. I can’t do it anymore without hurting badly (can’t grip anything for a week after), so yes I hate snow. I can never enjoy snow again. It’s Saturday and I still can hardly use my hands.
For the people that can enjoy it, I’m happy for you.

Portland is getting an “Arctic Blast” sometime today that will last all week. We have a few systems moving through… so we may end up with an inch to a few inches depending on where you’re at.
It doesn’t seem like a lot.
It is more than enough to shut the whole fucking city down. <sigh>
That said, I am hopeful to get some snow, it is always fun. Maybe it’ll last long enough to give us a snowy Christmas
Posting from hill. Stomping a lot of snow for youi snow haters.
Since the last post I made we had 4 inches of snow a few days ago. This morning there was another 6 inches and we’re still getting this stuff. To improve matters the snow blower is hardly running. I did 4 hours of moving snow again, but I had to leave some undone because of the dying snow blower. The wind is blowing the snow around so lots of drifting and a frozen face. Sunday it is predicted to have a low of -10F. Brrrrr. The snow isn’t done yet either.
Based on your description of Charlotte traffic during a snowstorm, its perfectly obvious you don’t actually go out on the roads. Unless, by “clogged” you actually meant to say “deserted”.
Detroit area is getting up to 10 inches today. Northern suburbs more. A car just got stuck in front of my house.
I have had years when I never used my slow blower at all. Most maybe once or twice. It got stolen and I figured I could live without one. I made a mistake.
When I have looked at the national radar, I see the northern half of MI is really getting nailed. Is that typical?
Well - Raleigh traffic, really. It hasn’t really snowed since we moved here.
And thank god for that! Although, I gotta say, I wasn’t quite expecting this heat wave we seem to be having. Last night, I drove home in pea soup fog. That was interesting… At least I can say that for the first time ever the Fiesta Plaza klieg light electronic sign didn’t blind me on my way home from work.
If you need to get anything done in NC, North GA, SC, etc. and you know how to drive in the snow, have a ball. You’ll be cruising around on streets that are empty, except for the other 12 people in town who feel comfortable driving in the snow. All of this is assuming the storm:
a) Isn’t bad enough to close down too many local retail shops.
b) Doesn’t include sleet
c) Came with enough warning that snowplows were able to be deployed on at least a limited basis.
Be thankful all those folks bought up the bread and milk. They did it so that they wouldn’t have to drive around the next day, not because they are afraid of being shut in.
