I got my first speeding ticket two days after I got my 1st drivers license. On Shattuck avenue in Berkeley. I remember it like it was yesterday.
I got my second speeding ticket Saturday. On I-5 traveling back to Oakland from Stockton. Doing 90mph in a 70mph zone. It sucks, I can’t make fun of the wife anymore. Until now she’d gotten all the tickkets both moving and parking. It’s unfair!
Well, for those of us women, was the cop cute who gave you the ticket?
I remember my first ticket. I was driving my brand new '86 Mustang Convertible w/top down. Going along I10 between Banning and Palm Springs. Got pulled over doing about 90 in a 55 zone. He only wrote me up for doing 75. The good part was that he was driving a Mustang. I don’t know, I guess I should have tried to run to see if my car was faster than his…
I would have dusted him. I’ve only had the car for two weeks, and would like to see if it’ll really do 140 (I did get it up to 100 briefly). He was driving the standard Chrysler job. Nice guy, really about 6 ft 180 lbs. Took him forever to write the ticket though, so he may not be too bright ;).
Ah you say not bright, that means he is just a “toy”, this is getting betters and betters. You have his name, look at bottom of ticket. What I want you to do is write him and gently suggest he stop by this board and introduce himself. You know it won’t go bad for you.
[sub]I have been in a sarcastic mood all week,
so hee hee, I am causing problems nah nah nah nah [/sub]
Oh are you going to do traffic school? The last time I did traffic school I did one of those “funny, jokester” classes. I was so bored, would have rather been in an educational class that taught more actual defensive driving techniques. For the record, I have only had two tickets, ever.
deb2world The ticket is in my glove box and I drove my commuter today. If the threads still alive I’ll give it to you tommorrow. I haven’t decided whether to go to driving school.
Rushgeekgirl What kind of car is it? My bud has been driving an 87 Taurus since April on expired tags. He says certain cars are invisible.
I remember my first ticket. It was for going 65 in a 55. I had never been pulled over before, so the guy was driving behind me forever with his red lights (Not the flashers) on. I had no idea what that meant, so I kept on going. At this point I wasn’t speeding anymore, so I didn’t know why he would want to pull me over. I hadn’t even noticed that I had been speeding in the first place. Sigh. ::rolleyes:: He finally got tired of following me and turned on his flashers. I did mimmediately pull over after that. He was pretty nice about it, but despite my best efforts, I still got the ticket. (He had “already started writing it”)
Anyway, I did do traffic school, but I did it on-line at trafficschool.com. Not all juridictions allow this, but if yours does, I highly recommend it. You can stop and come back to it, so you don’t have to do it all at once, and you can do it from home. It was great.
Almost lost my license for that. Part of the dialogue went like this:
Cop: “See this license?” (Holds my license up)
Me: “Yes.”
Cop: “Kiss it goodbye.”
The judge was nice though, since I pleaded guilty and was dressed nice and brought my mom with me. He let me off with just 8 points and $150 fine and a lecture. (11 points = automatic suspension).
That was almost 5 years ago. I’ve been clean since, and I don’t speed much anymore so hopefully I’ll never get another one.
Jeez. I got my first (and only) ticket on Shattuck Avenue in Berkeley too! It was for making an illegal left turn, but I was waved through the intersection by the driver facing me. Took the ticket to court and won. Afterwards I asked the cop why he ticketed me and his reply was that he “wanted to meet me.” And yes, he was a cute cop.
Nah, your Mustang would have gotten dominated. First off, the convertible weighs about 200lbs(WAG) more than one with a roof. Secondly, Police Interceptor Mustangs were, well…how can I put this…more beefed up than a stock Mustang. So sorry to say, deb2world you woulda got caught
