The settings on this message board don’t allow users (any of us, not just new users) to directly upload image files. If you want to embed an image in your post, you have to put the URL of the image from another online site into your post (on its own line of text).
Note that the board’s software (Discourse) will let you go through the process of trying to share an image, before telling you that you can’t when you try to post it. It’s not ideal.
If you are trying to share an image from your own computer (such as a screenshot), you’ll have to first upload the image to an image-sharing site, and then share the URL for the image there in your post.
You are wrong. That “word of warning” is a way to offer advice to someone who might be stumbling through figuring out the board. Nothing more.
I have no disdain or care what this poster says or does. I just didn’t want them to think all the pendants laying in wait to jump are like the regular folks on the board who are welcoming and happy they found such a great place to post. That we like new posters.
I swear @ilansho I was not meaning to sound in the least bit rude. If it came off like that I’m sorry.
Thanks. Sorry for answering late..I didn’t see this intense engagement coming + discovering there are different button AND n non useful upload icon ..I thought this site would be less problematic and “fighting ignorance”

Heeyy…I just got back today 19/6 June 6 ,You wee right..I didnt expect such an intense egagement on simple UI technic question ..And even fund out that the upload button is useless .How will we "Fighting ignorance since 1973.(It’s taking longer than we thought.) " .. Thanks
The upload button is a standard feature of the Discourse software that we use, so the button shows up for everyone. However, since we are not a hosting site, we have uploads mostly disabled. Cecil Adams can upload, and does on rare occasions, but very few other people can upload.
(If you are not aware, the Straight Dope Message Board was created in support of the Straight Dope website, which contains articles written by Cecil Adams)
