OK, we are a week and a day out from the 2006 Congressional elections. There are numerous threads on these boards debating, arguing, complaining, rejoicing about who will win, who may win, etc., etc., etc. This is not one of them.
This thread is a simple poll asking two questions:
After the 2006 Congressional elections, …
Which major political party will hold power in the US Senate, and by what amount? The US Senate is currently 55 Republicans, 44 Democrats and one Independent. Only one third of the seats in the Senate are up for election.
Which major political party will hold power in the US House of Representatives, and by what amount? The House is currently 231 Republicans, 205 Democrats and one Independent. All seats in the House are up for election.
It’s worth noting that the one independant in the senate (Jim Jeffords,) is retiring, and the one independant in the House (Bernie Sanders,) is running for his spot, and will probably get it.
*These figures are based on the assumption that the election won’t be stolen, an assumption that is very likely wrong. There are no numbers that will indicate a steal, but the likely way they’d push it would be narrow Republican majorities in both the House and the Senate.
