What is this a response to?
I was hoping the Steelers would pick up a power running back. Willie Parker is OK, but we traditionally have a hard hitter too.
If you had to give the Patriots a grade for their draft, you’d have to give them a solid WTF. They got at least three guys who were so obscure that there was no information whatever about them on the NFL site. Their MO seemed to be to get unpolished gems from overlooked schools. Who knows, maybe it’ll pan out for them. But it has to be said that this was a draft they didn’t have a whole lot of interest in.
That whole Randy Moss thing is something else again.
Is there a Chuck Norris joke here that I’m not aware of or are you thinking of Chris Berman’s NFC Norse division?
Regarding the Packers, I can’t say that I think they hit it out of the park either. There seemed to be better picks available. The last few drafts have been pretty good though, so I can wait and see.
As far as Moss goes, I wouldn’t bet either way. I think it could work out for both him and the Pats. I don’t think it would have worked out in Green Bay though, so as a Green Bay fan I’m relieved.
Let me start with a :smack:
I don’t see any graceful way out of this one. Sigh! I’m not sure if I would call it a whoosh though. It’s definitely a case of ignorance needing to be fought though and me hearing a word I understood, not what was being said. Here I always thought it had something to do with Vikings, etc. I suppose that was due to me being into Norse mythology as a kid and had no idea that there was such a thing as a Norris Division in the NHL. (Are they even in business anymore?)
Anyway, please excuse my horribly incorrect correction.
I still like Norse Division better!
49ers got WR Jackson from the Seahawks for a forth round pick. Best. Deal. Ever. Depending on where next year’s first-round pick ends up (the one they traded to draft Joe Staley), I think this was a very good draft for them. Even if we tank (not likely) and it’s a high pick, it’s still positive. Can you say “NFC West Champions”?
I can say NFC West Champions. I can say San Francisco 49ers. I just can’t say NFC West Champions San Francisco 49ers. At least not yet.
Nyah nyah
I’ve seen several draft grading articles that put us at the top - I’ve yet to see one that hasn’t, actually.
This football team will mostly suck this year although having a QB that might not totally cripple of offense combined with not having the worst OC in the league might surprise people. If someone other than coach catfish was at the helm, I might even say I expect to surprise everyone this year. But he is, so we’re probably in for another game with lots of losses where we “played real hard” but lost because of a gutless coach.
But anyway, Phil Savage is already one of the better GMs in the league. If we had a coach as good as Savage is a GM, we’d be going places.
Yeah, both did a pretty good job. Though if the Browns still do suck next year, and even if Quinn is worthy of a top 5 pick like people predicted they probably will in the short term, they might not feel as rosy about this move when next years draft comes around. Quinn certainly needs to prove he’s better than the “next big thing” next season before we can start sucking each other’s popsicles.
That’s true. I’m pretty down on my team (mostly catfish) and even I wouldn’t predict a top 5 pick, and probably not top 10. Most likely in the 15 area. If so, we’d be paying our 2007 rounder to get our 2008 first round pick a year early - and 7 spots lower. Not a really bad deal, considering what has been given in recently history to move up. Trade down scenarios are usually heavily in favor of the team trading down.
That said, if anyone had asked me if I’d have been happy getting two of the top 5 prospects and all it would cost was 2 firsts and a second, I’d be all over that. Technically, we traded back up into the second, so it really cost 2 firsts, a few spots in the second, a third, and fourth. I can live with that.
Unfortunately I feel like we picked the wrong two top 5 talents. I didn’t personally consider Joe Thomas a top 5 talent, but the consensus was that he was. I very much hope he proves me wrong.
Now, if you instead took Peterson, Quinn, and Eric Wright on the first day, I might start talking in terms of “best first day ever”
Eric Wright, by the way, from what I’ve read, was rated as the #1 CB in the draft by many draft experts. He dropped because of character issues. Apparently there was an accusation of date rape in his past that never went very far, had no proof, and he was never charged with it. USC was going to suspend him anyway, so he transfered to UNLV - partly to prove that if he could prove he’s a good person and stay clean in Vegas, he can stay clean anywhere. And since then, he’s been a model citizen and an honor roll student. So apparently he had first round talent - possibly even borderline elite corner talent - with character concerns. He’s not to be overlooked in that it’s possible that we landed an elite LT (I don’t think so, but I hope so), elite QB (consensus) and elite CB in the same draft. If they all pan out, this could be talked about as the day the Browns franchise turned around.
Edit: Wanted to add that I don’t object to drafting an LT. A lot of Browns fans sneer at me and say “oh you just want the sexy pick, you don’t know what football is really about” and such. No, I’m well aware of the importance of quality linemen, I just don’t feel like Thomas is a Pace/Boselli/Ogden type prospect, and when there’s a prospect the quality of Peterson available, you can’t pass up elite for “solid”. For the record, if we had the #1 pick in the 2004 draft, I’d have wanted Gallery.
I was laughing so hard I scared my dog.
How the hell does someone come up with that. I mean, how many football fans also have terrible Indian music videos laying around to spoof.
Oh my god that’s awesome. That crazy NFC East, I tell ya…
Not nearly as fun or as manly a division as the NFC North, I tell ya.
So wait, they are saying that Redskin fans are gay and and cute Indian chicks dig Giants, Eagles and Cowboy fans? Is that what they were saying?
Did I see some air-Sitar action there?
