2007 Weight Loss Club. January

I started NutriSystem just over two weeks ago.

Starting weight: 301

End of week one: 288.8

End of week two: 287.4

I lost a LOT of fluid that first week–but I needed to. My ankles and feet were always painfully swollen (so much so that my toes would spread apart). Now they are still somewhat edemic, but much MUCH improved.

The food is pretty good. I’ve liked most everything I’ve tried. The tuna casserole is kinda nasty, though. On the box, it says “improved taste,” which makes me wonder how bad it was before. Glad I only ordered one of those! OTOH, the ravioli is fantastic! And the chocolates are yummy, too!

Here’s to success in 2007!

I got the new week one book last Saturday when I weighed in, and they’ve changed the way you calculate the number of points you get per day. Now its based on your gender, age, how much you currently weigh, how tall you are and how active your day normally is.

Came out the same as what I was currently getting for points.

Katie, can you shoot me an email please? I can’t email you, no email in your profile. Gingerofthenorth@hotmail dot com. Thanks!

Thanks, Telemark.

I’m down a pound down so far. 177 is my all-time low (but isn’t reflected in my stats as I only listed starting weights) and I am hoping that I can hit it before the end of the month when I am going on a mini four to five day vacation to the Midatlantic to visit some friends for my birthday.

I ran a mile today on the treadmill.

I gained a pound over the holidays. I figure I got off easy, since I was exercising less due to 2 to 3 days a week of physical therapy. I’m 187 now, hoping to get down to 150 by June.

I’m balancing carbs and proteins, as suggested by my nutritionist, and working out 5 days a week. I added weights to my routine, mostly because the physical therapist has me doing leg press, extensions and curls. My gym (New York Sports Club) has a thing they call Express Line, which is 8 machines that work your whole body. You can do the circuit in 20 minutes. I’m doing that twice a week and aerobics and my PT exercises 3 times a week. I like the elliptical trainer and I walk on the treadmill when all the elliptical machines are busy. I wouldn’t run even if someone was chasing me.

I’m feeling pretty enthusiastic. I guess that’s good, right?

Thanks!

Sorry, I didn’t see your post at first or I’d have thanked you both!

Actually I saw on TV last night that they have a one week free trial of WW online. I might look into it. My sister was on it ages ago but I think it’s very different now.

If what your sister remember is the “exchange” kind of diet – breakfast is 1 bread, 1 meat, 1 fruit, 1 fat, etc. – then it is indeed very different now. I like the points system a lot better.

I just got back from my very first Weight Watchers meeting. It was not nearly as cringe inducing as I had imagined. The receptionist that signed me up was very silly, and the group leader was nice.

The only thing that struck me funny was the gold stars. It reminded me of the “Star Cards” we used at my dance studio for little kids. When you spoke up in the meeting, you recieved a gold star sticker to put on your bookmark! yay!?

I also learned that my scale at home LIES, and that I actually weigh 212.

Marjorie, some people need that psychological validation. I personally have the magnets marking the 25, 50, and 75 lb milestones (a friend of mine who is a leader sent them to me), and my key chain is the 10% keychain. I also have the charms for 16 weeks on plan, goal, and lifetime. I haven’t cheated and put on the goal and lifetime ones yet.

I don’t NEED that validation as I’ve pretty clearly shown by doing it on my own (outside of friends and family support), but it’s nice to get it once in awhile, you know?

I understand entirely wrt celebrating and marking weight loss. That’s part of why I’m going to meetings. I just thought it was weird that after giving the people who lost 5lbs their stickers, she continued to hand the same stickers out for speaking.

We weighed in tonight instead of this coming Saturday because I’m bringing the car to the garage Saturday morning.

I lost 9 pounds!

This gives me 25.3 pounds off from Thanksgiving weekend.

Congrats on the loss. I think I fould it on my belly. You want it back?

Seriously, I started with you guys last year, then got sent of five mouths of travel for work. I did not do so well through that time. Then, about July I got started and was good through almost all of August. Then I let myself get distracted due to a series of deaths in the family and amoung friends. Started over eating and drinking. New years let us start over, so I am back.

Starting 280 (ave of reading on my digital scale)
Goal 175

Can somebody recommend a good scale? I really don’t trust the digital I have, probaly because the name is Thinner, but I am not.

I have a Tanita, which I love.

I lost another 3.2 pounds bringing my total to 25.4. Jayjay’s total is actually 25.8.

Go us!

I think there’s a message here, kids. If you grow up to be gay, Amish reality show fans, you too can lose 25 pounds in a month.

Good luck on the loss. I have two digital scales. The older one happens to be the basic Thinner scale. The other is a fairly advance Tanita scale I ordered from Target that stores the basic stats for both my wife and I. It provides Body Fat Monitor with Body Water Percentage in addition to weight. I use both and I find the Thinner scale is 2.5 to 3 pounds lighter than the Tanita that seems to match up to the Doctor’s Office scale. The Tanita was recommended here in an earlier thread.

So far I have not got my diet back on course. I hope tomorrow brings some good news.

Jim

OK, I’m convinced. Assuming this club is accepting new members.

1/1/07: 330 lbs  Wish me luck!

Good luck!
