1.) I met my boyfriend about 6 months ago. He is the most wonderful man ever and is absolutely the best thing to happen to me this year.
2.) I spent about 3 months this year being unemployed. I ended up having to sell stuff on eBay and working a couple of crappy part time jobs to make ends meet while looking for the job I have now, which is fantastic and makes up for the months of uncertianty and pulling money out of savings to live.
3.) Obama winning the 2008 election!
4.) I don’t know what the best thing to happen to me will be, but I hope to travel internationally for the first time in 2009 and I expect that will be an incredible experience.
5.) I think the biggest news events of 2009 will be in regards to the inauguration of President Obama, but there will probably also be a major national disaster or two and terrorist actions in many countries across the globe. I am also going to go out on a limb and guess that either Britney Spears or Michael Jackson will go completely off the deep end and will cost them their life.

I got a promotion and started working in Manhattan.

My uncle, who was only 30, died of what appears to be an intentional drug overdose. This required my grandparents to become the legal guardians of his 9 year old son.

Definitely Obama winning the election.

Hopefully… I will get an acceptance letter from the graduate school of my choice.

I imagine there will be some big, newsworthy and most-likely controversial changes made in government. I am worried the headlines will involve Syria, Iran, or Afghanistan.
1.) What is the very best thing that happened to you in 2008?
I had a great summer vacation in Sweden. Got to meet lots of friends and family (who live there) and a good time was had by all!

Lost my job, yeah - that kinda sucks

Breaking out from the fold, but I’m gonna go with the national economy crashing and burning.

I’ll get a great new job in a new country! Enabling me to do things I’ve never done before and see new stuff, and things.

Corruption charges will be brought out against members of the government (I hope). Not much gonna top that on a local scale.

My daughter was engaged to a very nice guy.

1.) I moved from a shitty apartment with very loud upstairs neighbors to a little free-standing house.
2.) I lost my old (-ish) wacky lesbian Aunt Carol a few days before Christmas, unexpectedly. I could always count on her to remember my birthday and Christmas, no matter how poor or sickly she was, and she was both often. She had a very sharp wit and a loving heart. I’ll miss you Aunt Carol!
3.) A black man became President.
4.) I’ll keep living.
5.) The Bushes divorce. She finally saw what an ass George W. is but she couldn’t split before, now she can. (Just guessing.)

I figured what I want to do with my career.

A very promising relationship seems to have crashed and burned. It’s not completely beyond repair, but I’m not getting my hopes up.

The credit crunch. Obama’s victory is definitely a close second, but long-term the financial crisis is what we’re going to remember.

Graduate admissions.

1.) What is the very best thing that happened to you in 2008? My son was born healthy
2.) What is the very worst thing that happened to you in 2008? I can’t think of a single really awful event this year.
3.) What is the most memorable news story IYO from 2008? I think it’s the massive Bank crisis. Without that, I am not 100% sure that Obama would have been elected, so I am going to go with that.
4.) What do you predict to be the best thing that will happen to you in 2009? The little guy I am carrying now will be born in late March or early April. We’ll be buying a new and better car, and I will be going back to work part time. We’re hopeful that my husband will get something better as well.
5.) What major newsworthy event(s) do you think will happen in 2009? I can’t really say. I think this recent scuffle involving Israel is likely to escalate, and it has the potential to get big.
It’s a fair contender, though honestly I consider that the big news story of 2007, or possibly 2006. Michigan has seen this coming for a while. As early as 2005 my friends started fleeing the state, as one put it, ‘‘Like rats abandoning a sinking ship.’’

Ending up in a job situation that has given us some true financial flexibility.

Nothing too terrible, I think, although finding out that a good friend had breast cancer was not fun at all.
**3) What is the most memorable news story IYO from 2008?**I’m influenced by current events and proximity, I suppose, but the Christmas Eve Massacre happened about two miles from my house, and I’m having difficulty getting my head around it.
