2008 Presidential Election Results Thread. See it here as they come in.

VT is not on the MSNBC map(?)

JMan–I am too. It’s not going the way I thought it would. I sat and watched Kerry. I don’t think I can go through that again…

Me too. The map comes up but the states are no longer “rolloverable”.

Early results don’t really tell you a lot unless they’re sampling from all the polls, which of course they aren’t.

If you started off in North Carolina reporting from polls in urban Raleigh-Durham, you’d conclude Obama was going to crush McCain; if you started off in rural areas, you’d conclude the reverse. States have radical differences from county to county - Virginia being a great example, with the north being heavily blue and the south and west being red. Right now they have OBama leading South Carolina 57-43, which is just totally impossible - the polls can’t be twenty to thirty points off. So you can dismiss that out of hand.

Also, the results I’m seeing don’t include early voting, which could be substantially different from election-day voting.

and more than a little worried. I’m making myself sick.

[Keith Olbermann] I’ll be in the cold, cold, cold ground before I ever recognize Vermont![/KO]

raises hand

This trickling-in of results is killing me. I kind of want to just have the next four hours or so fast forward…

Oh. Next to the northeast edge of New York.

Fox has Oklahoma going for McCain.

When do the early voting results get included? (I know that sentence is probably horribly ungrammatical, but I’m having a mild freak-out right now, so GET OFF MY BACK, MAN.)

CNN still shows Obama ahead after 11% precincts reported.

ARGH!

I mean, a little.

maps working again. From a cursory county by county rollover, Virginia is going to McCain, but…those Northern VA counties like Fairfax, Landover, Frederick, etc are going to be pretty huge.

They are calling SC for McCain even though the numbers are pretty strong for Obama?

I called Oklahoma for the Republican candidate in 2005.

If you absolutely must have some good news for Obama, Indiana looks promising. As of 1957 EST McCain is up by just 2 points but Marion County (Indianapolis) is only 16% in, and none of the Gary-area counties are in, and I would think those will skew Democrat. This is a must-win for McCain, but not for Obama, so even being close here is good news for him.

Another thing to keep in mind about these results is that anyone in line at poll closing time gets to vote, even if it takes hours. We’re gonna see late returns from a lot of places.

Obama wins PA!!!

Go Penn! GO!

PENNSYLVANIA FOR OBAMA per MSNBC!!!

AND New Hampshire!!!

Is that a snipe at me? I know where VT is–I don’t see it blue on the MSNBC map. But I see Kos has made NH and VT blue, so that’s good.
I am getting more and more anxious–for all these weeks of good news re Obama, I am no longer sure we are winning this. I know this is the whole idea of TV–heighte the drama etc, but it’s killing me. I’d give anything for something to do besides this, but I can’t look away, either. I wish I had something to knit.

PA to Obama! Maybe. (not taking anything for granted).

If VA is 43% - 57% with two small rural counties reporting, I guess that’s good news.
