I’m in.
Yes. AL-only leagues seem to be pretty popular with the Red Sox Yanks and retarded DHs. It offends me that the senior circuit doesn’t dominate this.
Okay, I’m in on NL-only. Anyone interested in making it an auction as well?
If schedules work, I always prefer auction to regular.
How do you recommend making the logistics of an auction draft work? Is there a particular site/software you recommend? I’ve never been part of one over the internet so I’m a little leery.
I’ve run an online auction league for the last 8 years. We use an aim chat room to do the draft. We take turns bringing up players. After a player is brought up anyone else type in bids assuming they can legally make said bid. One person acts as the moderator going once, twice, and sold once the bidding slows. Whoever had the highest bid gets the player. It takes a long time to do (7 hours is a fast year), but is lots of fun.
I prefer Auctions for shallow leagues but it doesn’t work as well for deep leagues. If this is going to be a deep one, and it probably will if it’s based off previous SDMB leagues, we should probably just make it a regular draft. Making it a keeper league is something to discuss though.
Apparently, ESPN is offering free auction leagues this year. So that’s an option. But the key is absolutely everyone has to be there, otherwise it’s worthless.
I’d be interested in trying an auction league. It would certainly add a whole new aspect to my draft prep.
Well, one last bump -
We’re up to 16 owners in the big SDMB league. We still have room for up to four more! So if you’re interested, drop me a PM and I’ll send you the details.
The draft time is next Monday night, the 23rd - at 9:30pm eastern.
Bump. Less than 24 hours to go.
And just a friendly reminder - we had a few instances last year of people commenting on players not drafted yet, along the lines of “my gosh, I can’t believe Sleepy McLotsofvalue is left on the board!” Please don’t do this. Make fun of someone’s pick, fret about not having any starting pitchers going into Round 15, lament picking three catchers to start off the draft - but please don’t comment on undrafted players.
Agreed. That’s like saying, in the middle a fascinating heads-up poker match that you’re not involved in, with three deuces on the board, that you had the fourth deuce.
Agreed. Happens every draft and it pisses me off.
It usually happens with the guy I plan to pick next round right after I’ve picked in THIS round.
The work scheduling gods have decided that it’s more important for me to work than it is to partake in the annual spring pasttime of drafting my team, so unfortunately, I won’t be at the live draft tonight. I have, however, ranked 400 players, so hopefully I won’t get hurt too bad. Good luck to everyone this year.
Yup. Happened last year with John Maine for me. I was shitting an absolute brick, waiting for him to come back around - I had grabbed the first two middle relievers I wanted, hoping to start a holds run so that Maine would fall to me. Then someone says, “wow - John Maine’s still on the board”. Luckily (unluckily?) I was able to nab him. Totally uncool. Not bush-league uncool, but still.
Anyone else completely incapable of doing any work right now?
Only if by “work” you mean “anything having anything whatsoever to do with my actual job rather than ranking pitchers except when my boss is anywhere she might have a good view of my computer screen and realize that the Excel file that’s active is not the one I’m supposed to be working on.”
What else would I have meant?
Pre-ranking is for wusses. I’m going to go by my raw baseball intuition.
Then, in the fourth round, when all the guys I have intuition about are gone, I’m going to frantically google every player on the Yahoo rankings in between turns.
