-6 European degrees here in Paris this morning. F’ing cold was my own personal description.
Did I mention I had no hot water yesterday morning. Or heat? Bah. I got in late Wednesday form my LA flight and went straight to bed to sleep off the jet lag. No shower. Got up yesterday morning no heat or hot water in the whole damn building - communal heat so nothing i could do. So I had to go to work after only a quick sink wash with a boiled kettle’s worth of water. Urgh. I hate Paris
Last night when I got home the heat and hot water were back. I had the loooooooongest hottest shower you could imagine to get rid of the 12 hours of ‘plane’ I had on me.
Other than that I got nuttin. Envy me my exciting life.
It’s pretty cold this morning, but no ice or anything. I think they said it was 26, with north winds around 20 mph. Brr!!!
Glad your hot water is back on, mmmms.
Glad you have a plan forward, Taters. Knowing is so much more calming than not knowing!
I envy your four day weekend, Mom - but I was off while you were working on the project from hell, so all’s fair, right?
The Longhorns lost their quarterback very early in the 1st quarter with a shoulder injury. So sad, it should have been a more exciting game. (BCS Championship.) But the chili was fantastic!
This is one mean cold spell, I tell ya. Even the poor iguanas down in Broward are suffering. Our possible frozen precipitation doesn’t get here till tomorrow morning so we’ve had a reprieve.
haze,. I hope you were able to give the driver of that car what for.
Glad you’re okay, Haze. That sounds a bit scary. I’ve been practising my snow-go-away mental powers, but I don’t think I have the knack yet… this morning, we woke up to another couple of inches on the ground.
Puggy, I’ve heard some funny stories from Miami Friend about the iguanas during the occasional wintertime cold spell. Poor cold-blooded critters.
mmmmmmmmm, so much for the romantic ideal of glamorous Paris living, huh? At least, I’d think it might be a tad hard to be glamorous when you can’t bathe and you’re wearing five bulky sweaters to stay warm.
It’s another quiet day in PolicyLand. I guess I should enjoy it, though, because it’ll be nutty as soon as the vendor selection is done.
About 36" square. I think (no pattern, just kind of made it up) it’s 140 stitches on size 10 needles with 10 on each side for a border and 40 for each square. No idea how many were in the top and bottom borders, but I think there were 70 rows in each square. So there’s a sort of rough pattern if you want to try it. Oh and the borders are garter stitch and the squares are stockinette and reverse stockinette.
The yarn is Barnet Baby Coordinates Chunky in Toasty Teal. I like the chunky kind because it’s one of the only baby yarns that’s thick enough not to take forever. I’m using it now for the blanket I hope to have done by the beginning of Feb. and then I think I’m going to use it for the three blankets for the triplets that are due in June. I should be able to get all four blankets done in time. Hopefully. If I don’t lose momentum on about blanket number 3.
I’m gonna have to keep it under lock and key!
Has anyone heard from rigs? Is she just busy?
Glad you have a plan Taters. Hope it all goes well.

Glad your time in Paris is almost over mmmmmms! There’s a chance that KT may be asked to spend a year in Thailand. I’m not excited about that at all, especially after hearing how hard it’s been for you to be away from mr. ems. Hopefully, it’ll end up just being 3-week trips, but we’ll see.
I really need to get to work, but the motivation’s a bit lacking after an insane week.
**taxi **- so you made it all in one piece - great! I hate sewing squares together, altho I do it. I know what you mean about the chunky baby yarn - I’ve got a blanket in afghan stitch using that - that is, it’s in progress. I’ll post pics with it’s done.
I was just talking to my mom - yesterday was her b-day and I forgot to call - and I remembered that I need to renew my license, so I think I’ll go do that now. At least I can check on thing off my list!
Could you please lecture my weather as well, swampy? We have about 5 inches and it’s still snowing. Very lightly, but persistently.
Glad there’s finally some progress on the girly bits stuff, Taters.
Yeah, European apartments can be lots of fun, can’t they, mmmmmmmmmmm? Glad the heat is back.
Haze:  Glad it wasn’t worse.
Yay for a 4-day weekend, FCM!
How’s your MIL doing, ruble?
Oh, and I think I forgot to wave as Soapy went by earlier.
Meant to comment on your blanket when you posted the ravelry link, taxi. Very nice. I friended you, too. Hope that’s OK. Also, I’ve seen rigs on facebook, so I think she’s just busy.
I was a recluse yesterday. Spent the day knitting and watching TV online. I’ve started two more scarves. The first one led me to the second one. I’m way behind on posting pictures, so one of my to-dos for today and tomorrow is uploading pictures and updating ravelry. I’ll post links to flickr as well once I’m done.
No snow here; just rain, rain, rain. You all can keep that white crap too.
Haze, I’m glad you weren’t more seriously hurt and are okay. Sheesh, I would have kicked a big ass dent in the asshole’s car.
Your blanket is pretty, **taxi. ** Thank goodness I’m waaay past the stage of needing blankies for babies.
Glad the pup is okay, Pie.
ems, just think, soon you’ll be home with the hubby and won’t have to worry about quirky Paris utilities. (It is soon, right?)
Not much else going on here. Work, work, work. Tomorrow, we’re celebrating a friend’s birthday at another friend’s house. I still have to get her a present and am wracking my brain trying to figure what to get her.
Smooches to all. I have to actually work now. Bah! Donwanna…
Glad to hear things weren’t worse, Hazel, and you’re okay. Hope all you southern types are doing okay amidst the ice and show as well–I know you’ll get your revenge when us northern types visit in July.
See, that’s the thing about Paris. I thought it was going to be all, you know, City of Light and everything, and then when I got there, it turned out to be this gritty, dangerous metropolis. At least I was there in the summer though, and didn’t need to check out the heating system.
I’m way way *waaaaaaaaaaaaay *past that stage, too, but I’m knitting them for Project Linus by way of my mom’s AARP group. When I have 3 or 4 ready, I pass them to Mom and she takes them to the next meeting. I just gave her 3 at Christmas and I’ve got 2 in progress now, but I’m going to steal taxi’s “pattern” and make another.
Back with a new driver’s license - I don’t think it took 10 minutes from stopping the car to starting the car. While she was going thru the forms, the lady asked “Do you want to be an organ donor today?”

Wellllll, maybe not today, but you can put me down as a donor on my license.
Then I ran down to Food Lion and scored big! My preferred brand of TP was on an unadvertised 3-day sale. Limit 2, but after I checked out with my first order, I went back in and got 2 more, so we’ve now got 48 unopened rolls at a super-good price. I may go back tomorrow and get some more. It’s not like they’ll spoil. Plus I don’t want to risk the Wrath of the Swampbear[sup]TM[/sup] for insufficient TP supplies.
And when I checked out my first order, I got a $5.25 off on my next purchase, which I turned around and used when I returned, so I got one pack of TP free, and the other for cheaper-than-sale-price. So yay!
SIL scraped the driveway, so I don’t have to mess with it. I didn’t even have to ask him - he just did it. He’s gone now - not sure where, but I’ve got the house to myself.
Time to make some sort of lunch-like substance, then maybe run the vacuum and dust some of the whiter furniture. Definitely not in the Suzy Homemaker Mode today…
I don’t know why, but that sentence tickles my funny bone. It sounds like virginity is something you can have left in your other handbag, you know?
Been deadish all day, but I think it’s not serious, just that it’s been too cold for too long and this week has been colder than the previous two.
Got a call from the sister of the woman who is in charge of my flat’s “coop” until next tuesday, re. my coop payments. I pay yearly for several reasons:
the payments are very low, e-payment fees would represent some serious inflation if I paid monthly
the coop is legally obligated to inform people in writing when the payments rise or there are extraordinary charges, but this one never does; you only find out if and when you (or, in last year’s case, my housesitter) run into a neighbor who berates you for it (or, in last year’s case, has the gall to threaten with a suit, good luck with that honey as the first thing a judge would ask to see is the written notifications)
I’ve never had the account number for the coop. You see, the traditional mode of payment consists of walking into the bank’s office, asking for a specific guy and giving him the money saying it’s for #6’s coop. He knows the account, you don’t need to know it! Now try and do an electronic deposit into an account that “Mike knows”
Since the sister doesn’t live in the village any more (i.e., she’s familiar with such concepts as “needing an account number” and “not being able to just go to the bank due to being in another country”), I hope to be able to get the account number this time; I asked for it so I could pay for this whole year before going home in April. If I can’t get the number, then the payment will have to wait until April.
The reason they were calling is that, since they basically use “Mike down at the bank” as their manager and he couldn’t find any recent payments from me (of course not, last one was in March), he told them I wasn’t “current on payments.” So I have to call him on Monday and tell him where to look; or when, rather.
That’s one inconvenient of having my house in a small town I would never have thought of: “people are used to paying stuff by handing cash to the guy at the bank and telling him who’s it for.”
I’ve been a bad mumper this week; just been busy at work, and listless at home, so didn’t think to bother to compose a post without having anything to say, you know?
Yes, I know that in the context of the MMP this is crazy talk!
Lesseeeeee…
All you people with to much snow. Gimme!
**Haze **-- Glad you’re not hurt any worse than that. I hope you got the driver’s number, at least
Ems – ah, the joys of inner-city accommodations. Any city. Even if it is Paris…
Pie, yeah, that sucks about the bank.
webner, **Nava **-- virginity is something not so much to be lost as discarded with extreme prejudice…
Sorry folks, my mad weather skilz only work in the deep south. If’n you live somewheres where snow and ice happens on a regular basis, then you have to deal.
It’s sunny but coooooooooooold out! I was gonna do chicken noodle soup and grilled cheese sammiches for lunch but I was presented with the alternative of goin’ to the good local seafood/fish place for dindin. I then developed me a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for some shrimpies and catfish. That will be good! Yes, shrimp and catfish. With cheese grits and hush puppies. Not the shoes! I mean these hush puppies. Crunchy corn and onion goodness!
