2012 Golden Globes on NBC Tonight

While I found Angelina Jolie to be painfully thin, she was stunning in that dress.

Unfortunately, my local station cut the audio feed when a joke was made so I read lips for the whole time between Gervaise coming back out and the next commercial.

It seems like they’re keeping Ricky on a leash this year. Thus far he hasn’t really said anything too outrageous.

But there was a point when he was introducing Antonio Banderas and Selma Hayek when the sound cut out, so maybe he made some off color joke then.

And Jessica Biel seems to have dug grandma’s wedding dress out for the occasion…

It seemed like he said something like “But I can’t understand a fucking thing they say.”

TV shows can have writing staffs of a dozen people. You expect her to name all of them? Or even worse, name some and omit others?

They tamed Ricky.

I told my geeky boyfriend that it looked like a church dress for the triple-breasted whore of Eroticon 6.

Best:
Nicole Kidman
Viola Davis
Sophia Vergera
Reese Witherspoon

Worst:
Emma Stone (I love her, but the dress was sad)
Kate Winslet (ditto)
Michelle Williams (love the hair, but not the dowdy dress)

Well, no. But did she name anyone? I just checked IMDB, which lists six writers, but the two guys who came up with the show wrote on every episode. She may have named them but all I remember her saying was that (I’m paraphrasing) she appreciated working on a show that gave her an opportunity to show her skills. Like, “finally, something worthy of my talent.”

Well, the two Best Picture winners as well as Best Director and Screenplay were all from 4 different films.

All four of the leading actor/actress winners were also from 4 different films.

Hugo and The Artist are certainly positioned to earn the most nods come Oscar time, though Descendants may very well earn as many in the major categories. No clear frontrunner so far, though today definitely gave Meryl and Octavia a boost.

It must be good if Kelsey beat out Cranston. Guess I’ll have to check it out.

That was awesome! The best part was how (understandably) flustered Kate was.

I may need to see it. He’s great.

Oh, and I was really glad that Claire Danes and Homeland won their awards. Very well deserved!

FTR: Fantasy and I had a falling out 35 years ago because it was taking over the SF section. I know i should respect Rail Road, because Harlan told me to, but it’s still too soon.

I saw and liked most of the movies nominated (I haven’t seen The Iron Lady or A Separation yet) and didn’t have an overly emotional stake in who won or who lost so I had a pretty good time. It’s better to not have a yappy dog in the fight and to be happy that a lot of good movies are being mentioned.

I am thrilled for Jean Dujardin, getting all this attention. I’ve liked him since I saw him in the two OSS films where he’s so funny as a clueless wacked-out secret agent (think James Bond and Inspector Clouseau’s one-night-stand child) and he’s so great in The Artist. If Brad Pitt doesn’t win the Oscar I hope he does. The Artist deserves all these awards it’s getting, especially since it’s the most unlikely awards winner ever (well, since Slumdog Millionaire anyway). It’s so fun seeing it defy expectations.

I loved that they brought Uggie the dog onstage when The Artist won, and Plummer giving a shout-out to Cosmo the dog.

I was very happy for Martin Scorsese and Christopher Plummer too. As a Clooney fangirl it’s always nice to see him win anything (other than Ides of March, which I didn’t much like), even though I was rooting for Brad Pitt and Hugo.

My favorite dress was Madonna’s. She looked so great and I love that her song won, even though I haven’t heard it other than the few seconds played. That’s because it pissed off a lot of snarky-toward-Madonna people on Twitter and it was satisfying to see them so flabbergasted.

I haven’t seen any of the TV nominees/winners but they all look really good. There were as many movie stars nominated for TV work as for film work!

I missed Gervais’s opening because we were out. So he toned it down then?

IMDB says his next on-screen role is Hervé Villechaize.

I was delighted for The Artist–I *hope *to be meeting with Jean Dujardin in Paris this May. My luck, he’ll be in L.A. while I am in Paris.

*What *is with Madonna arms? Is she planning on arm-wrestling with Michelle Obama?

And where is Johnny Depp from? His accent was vaguely Northern England. And [turning into Ma Depp] “you have such a nice face, get your hair out of it so people can see you.”

My wife was cringing for Madonna, saying her breasts must have been killing her, all squashed like that. I have no frame of reference, but it does look like it would have been uncomfortable.

Yeah, Madonna’s dress was waaay too tight on top. Her poor girls have been tortured so much over the years.

Boss is excellent and Grammer is excellent in it. He’s believably ruthless and arrogant , and deserved the nomination. I think Cranston should have won it, but Grammer put his heart and soul into that role. I’m more put off by Clooney’s movie winning as it did. It was a mediocre film.
