2012 Heisman Race (Week 10)

There’s still plenty of football to play, but the Heisman landscape is beginning to take shape. Who do you like? What’s your philosophy on the trophy - best player on the best team, or (as the trophy actually states) the most outstanding college football player? Here are the top 10 candidates, according to ESPN.

As a Subway Alumnus, I’d love to vote for Manti Te’o, but for now, he’s only #2 on my ballot. I’m going with Collin Klein.

Te’o chose a great time to have a stellar game, though- on a nationally televised game against a ranked opponent.

I’d love to see SOME pure defensive player win it (Suh SHOULD have, a few years back), some day.

Oregon’s players are screwed in this, because they usually only play the first half. Against Colorado last week, they were ahead 56-0 with two minutes left in the second quarter, and watched the second half from the sidelines.

Meanwhile, Notre Dame barely squeaks out wins over the likes of BYU, and its players get a full four quarters to pile up stats. God only knows how the BCS puts them ahead of Oregon.

You know BYU is actually halfways decent, right? Also, you know ND just beat the crap out of Oklahoma, right?

Yes, I voted for Manti. I’d love to see a LB win it.

And ND barely gets by a lackluster Pitt team.

Meanwhile, Oregon’s starters finally got to play four quarters. I suspect the defense was taking it easy on USC just for that purpose.

The result — 62 points and 730 yards against USC, both records in USC’s 125 year football history.

Kenjon Barner, who has no chance in the Heisman race because he usually only plays two quarters, played four quarters yesterday. All he did was rush for 321 yards and five TDs, against a USC defense that features many future NFL players.

Oregon’s offense is like nothing I’ve ever seen. It’s an utter travesty that they’re not #2 in the BCS.

Braxton Miller is still a year away. He is beginning to get a bit more confident as a passer, but his legs are downright ridiculous. I’ve never seen a more dynamic playmaker at Ohio State. The Buckeyes have scored 50+ points in 4 games for he first time ever, and Miller is the most important part of that. The postseason ban definitely hurts his chances, and he needs to develop his arm a bit more before he could win, for sure. But he’s certainly deserved a trip to New York this year.

That Oregon game was pretty amazing - they’re so fast. I can’t wait to see what happens when they face a couple of run defenses in the top 5 (Oregon St. #5, Stanford #1) - that will shake things out a bit.

Either way, I still don’t understand why people bring up team performance when talking about an individual performance award.

Because the computers don’t look at margin of victory. All they see is that ND is undefeated against slightly better competetion than Oregon. AIUI, this will change in the upcoming weeks.

Not really. They’re basically the same as the Oregon team that got squashed once it had to play a team with a defense.

Going with Te’O. About time a defender won.
