2012 NFL Pre-Draft Discussion

I am confused, does this mean they are only going to review plays that are originally called a turnover, or plays that might have been a turnover but were ruled otherwise. That was always one of the weird things about the scoring play reviews, if a receiver catches a ball in the end zone but is ruled out then no review without a red flag, but if he is ruled in then the review is free.

I’m sure the announcers will explain it to us for the first 12 weeks of the season.

Whether or not you agree with the OT rules, this just makes sense. It’s silly to have different rules for postseason and regular season games.

I’m assuming this means they’ll only go into a replay view if it’s unclear. Which I’m not entirely sure I agree with. I remember there being a few scoring plays last year that should have been reviewed, but weren’t, and there was no way for the coach to challenge them.

And constantly forget about the change. I lost track of how many times I heard “The coach should really challenge that TD” from the announcers.

Like ties?

One thing at a time.

Side note, these minor changes mean that I probably won’t have to print off a new, 240+ page NFL Rule Book; instead just making minor revisions.

Does anyone else do this? I don’t carry it to the games but I find myself consulting it, specifically the case book, multiple times throughout the season.

The new CBA included a much more rigid slotting system for rookies. First round picks are fixed at four years with a club option for a fifth year. I haven’t found the exact slot numbers, but I know there is only a little wiggle room for a given draft slot.

Ahhh. My favorite time of the off-season is here. FA is winding down and now the pre-draft bullshitting about who we are going to draft begins. I am surprised Jim Irsay has been able to keep a straight face this past week. Although, Jeff Fisher’s “We might trade up with the Browns” really should have set his pants on fire.

The 49ers signed big but old Brandon Jacobs to a one-year deal.

I think the absence of any glaring holes (except right guard) means the 49ers will either take BPA at #30 or trade up to grab a future star. My choice would be Coby Fleener.

Have I ever mentioned how much I love my DVR? I love my DVR.

I watch every play 2-3 times, on super slow-mo so I can follow the line play and see things the announcers never talk about, and it still takes me less time than the full telecast.

If they can’t give us a non-tedious broadcast, at least we can make our own.

I do, too. Doesn’t help much with live action, though.

What I do is set it to record, and then start watching an hour or more “late” (e.g. 2 pm est for the early game), fastforwarding through commercials and the halftime crap. I usually catch up sometime in the 4th quarter.

Not for everyone, but it works for me.

Not worth it with text, twitter, facebook and everything else. I get lots of notes from people during games.

I thought this was worth sharing and figured it might inspire some discussion.

Keeping up with the top ten unrestricted free agents left.

Agreed 100%, and I’m against the format.

That’s how I do it exactly.

When it’s not the Giants, though, and there’s two games on at once, I’ll switch back and forth between them, watching one drive at a time. It’s not readily apparent how to do this with my DVR (Cablevision), but once I figured it out it works quite well.

Can you explain why? I tend to think that having both teams getting a shot at a possession in OT is pretty cool. Its so anticlimactic when a titanic struggle results in OT, only for team A to get a break on the OT opening kick return or something then kick a FG 3 plays later, then game over.

Why have overtime at all? It’s the regular season. Let them have a fucking draw.

ETA: Holy shit. Marcus McNeil is still a free agent? He’s one of the 5 best tackles in the game.

It looks like McNeil has the injuries to show for it, too. It may be an issue where he is having trouble passing the medical.

Yup, I was all giddy about getting him for the Bears until I read about all his medical issues. Last year he was hurt and lost his job to Jared Gaither and the Chargers decided Gaither was a safer play going forward than McNeil, even though Gaither had been cut by 2 teams in 2 months prior to landing in San Diego (Gaither ended up playing great for some reason with the Chargers though).

I’m still marginally enthusiastic about bringing him in for a look, if his price falls far enough he’d be worth a gamble for a team like the Bears that needs help at OT and is pretty close to being a good team. You can’t go cutting Webb or Williams when you sign him because of the injury risk, but if there’s a 50% chance he’s back to Pro Bowl form he’s totally worth a $2.5M prove it deal.

Isn’t Ryan Grant still available?
