Missouri joins in East Division :dubious: hosting UGA in their first SEC game
TAMU will play in West Division hosting Florida in their first SEC Game
Teams will play 8 total SEC games, 6 against division foes and 2 against the other division, which they did not say would be a permanent situation.
Tennessee will play Bama, UGA plays Auburn, and LSU plays Florida, keeping at least two of the cross division rivalries intact.
Apparently UGA is happy with the 2012 schedule. They were scheduled to play Bama this upcoming season, but that got dropped and they are playing Ole Miss out of the West division (along with Auburn). I have following SEC football for over 30 yrs. It is amazing how many times UGA does not play Bama.
In case you want to want to start counting the days, Bama plays @ LSU on Nov 3rd.
You would not believe how long it took me to figure out that TAMU meant Texas A&M.
Not everyone is trained to the TV shortcuts.
And, I’m curious, who should go to the East to make room for Missouri in the West? It’s the best of a bad choice, as far as I can tell. Arkansas? Split the Alabama teams? LSU? Split the Mississippi teams?
Sorry about the TAMU confusion. I thought it was common knowledge.
I think the Missouri in the “East” is a temporary problem. they had to come out with a schedule and it is fix. And yes it was the best. As a Missouri resident, I think the SEC ought to make Mizzou and Arkansas a permanent rivalry, either in the same division or cross division like Bama vs Tenn.
The permanent fix may to rename their divisions into something lame like “Cotton” and the “Dixie” division. Cotton and Dixie (or Davis and Lee?) is far better than Legends and Leaders
But I think the SEC is not done expanding. I think they will be 16 teams within the next 2 years and there is no use making something permanent, when more expansion is imminent.
“Legends” and “Leaders” offend me because it pings my lameness meter.
Note to SEC, don’t use two similar and same length words.
How about Sugar and Cotton divisions? And FWIW, I live in SE Missouri and there is a lot of cotton grown here. Some of my best friends are cotton farmers.
Sugar and Cotton would be fine. It’s not very tough, but if they can’t do something common sense like East and West or Coast and Sun, it’ll work. Anything that doesn’t bring to mind slavery and the Civil War is better than anything that does.
