2014 College Football General Thread

Well bless your heart, isn’t that wonderful?

What do you expect when you’ve got the pollsters in your back pocket?

citation?

I believe the Southeast is underrepresented compared to Northeast and Midwest

Don’t worry about citations. Uncle Bob knows what he knows and you’re biased if you can’t see what he sees.

The poll has never been more biased. When one SEC team beats another it’s proof of how strong the SEC is, when Pac 10 or Big Ten teams beat one another it’s proof of how weak their conference is.

I will say this without any chance of ever being proven wrong- the SEC will never be in the class of the Big Ten in hockey.

Let’s see- Ol’ Miss (that’s the proper abbreviation for “old”) played a Boise State team on the downturn, Louisiana-Lafayette, Memphis, and still has to get by powerhouse Presbyterian. Mississippi State (the lesser MSU) played Southern Miss, UAB, South Alabama, and still has Tennessee-Martin. Yep, keep a creampuff non-conference game for late in the season for a quickie jump in the polls should you lose a game against someone decent. Auburn played San Jose State, at Kansas State (wow, a road game against a decent team, isn’t there an SEC rule against that?), Louisiana State and late season cupcake Samford. Alabama had West Virginia, not too bad, Florida Atlantic, Southern Miss, and in case they need a late season push in the polls, West Carolina. Three decent non-conference games in the lot. And based on this diet of creampuffs, they get anointed as superior. Piffle.

Still waiting for a citation that pollsters are in the SEC backpokets BLD.

I noticed the B1G game of the week on ABC Saturday afternoon was Rutgers vs Ohio State.

That was a game that I had circled going into this season. A BIG GAME!

The biased results aren’t proof enough? What will it take, the top 10 all being SEC schools?

I realize that Rutgers-Ohio State may not have the drama that Mississippi-Presbyterian is going to have later in the year. Put Rutgers in the SEC and they’re middle of the pack. Put Ohio State in the SEC and they walk away with it.

All available objective evidence to the contrary.

LMAO…THE Ohio State lost to Virginia Tech (in Columbus) who is an avg team in the ACC.

Ohio State is like being the Best BobSled team in Jamaica! Pretty good in Jamaica, something to mock outside of Jamaica.

This is almost as hilarious as the earlier inane hockey comment.

Hey the hockey comment may be inane but it’s also indisputably true. So Ohio State laid one egg. In the SEC, that’s acceptable because the pollsters will put you back where you were when you knock off Little Sisters Of The Poor late in the year.

Who gives a shit? Are we talking about football in this thread, or not? Do you realize how absolutely pathetic you sound?

“But…but…but… we’re better at hockey!!! WAAAHHHH!”

There are four major professional sports in the US and only the Big Ten fields competitive teams in each. Were it not for the biases of the pollsters and the media (jeez, can ESPN suck the SEC dick any more obviously?) the Big Ten would have more teams ranked and higher ranked teams. It’s a joke that Michigan State has had zero upward movement after winning five straight while Alabama has to go up with every win. It’s nothing more than bias, pure and simple.

Nobody asked me, but here’s what I think:

The SEC gets pre-season rankings that nobody else gets, and that they don’t deserve.

They ride those pre-conceptions all season long. So they get the “top to bottom” reputation based on the pre-season rankings of USCe, aTM and LSU, even though those are all mediocre, to put it charitably.

Their scheduling – 8 conference games plus 4 cupcakes – is a joke.

But: the SEC West does have some very excellent teams this year, and I wouldn’t bitch too much if they got 2 teams into the playoff.

I think they’re as top-heavy as the Big Two and Little Eight of old. Kentucky, Vandy, Florida, Tennessee, Missouri, A&M, LSU, and Arkansas are all quite ordinary. So much so that beating one’s chest about the amazingly difficult conference schedule is quite silly.

No conference should have two teams in the playoff. They need to expand to 8 teams to include the mid-majors.

These teams should be banned from the NCAA if they are professional sports teams.

If the BIG wants to be arrogant and sanctimonious, then B1G Championship should be good enough for them.

Competitive in Baseball? Really want to see how BLD spins the B1G record in Baseball

B1G has not won a College World Series since the mid 60’s. In fact they have not even been runner-up in the College World Series since the mid 60’s. They would probably want to claim Eastern Michigan who was runner-up in the 1970s.

Illinois Never has been to the College World Series
Indiana 2013 (their only appearance)
Iowa 1972
Michigan 1984
Michigan State 1954
Minnesota 1977
Northwestern Never
Ohio State 1967
Purdue Never
Wisconsin 1950

Penn St 1972 – before they joined the B1G
Nebraska 2005 – before they joined the B1G
Rutgers 1950 – before they joined the B1G
Maryland – Never

So Indiana was one of the 8 team is the CWS a year and half ago. Prior to that, it was nearly 30 years since a B1G team went to the CWS. We are talking about 8 teams every year. How can you spin the B1G is competitive in College Baseball.

In the last 30 years

12 of the 14 SEC teams has been to the CWS. (53 times total not including appearances by TAMU, ARK and USCe before they joined SEC)

2 of the 14 B1G teams has been to the CWS. (4 times total, and only 1 time as a B1G member )

Yep, B1G is sure competitive in Baseball.

Yes my source is wiki

Kentucky and Missouri are the two SEC teams who have not been to a CWS since 1984. UK has never been and Mizzou not since 1950.

At the start, this thread was fun. Now, it’s devolved into yet another SEC vs antiSEC pissing thread.

Oh well, seems to come with the territory…

Go Colorado School of Mines Gophers!

Please tell me who you mean. Miss St? Surely you aren’t refering to Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, LSU, Ole Miss, or Arkansas. Since all of those teams have at least one quality OOC team on their schedules, you must mean Mississippi State.

It’s simple- because of the academic calendar and weather, Big Ten teams have to play their first month and a half or so on the road playing southern teams, while the southern teams (not just the SEC) get to play the vast majority of the early games at home. The disparity in home games accounts for a lot of disparity in the records.

Question: Is the B1G competitive in Baseball or not as you claim earlier today?

No Spin and No excuses

================

So geographic and weather concerns is excuse for baseball but not for hockey. In the South, they just don’t play much hockey on the amateur level. I doubt if Valdosta Georgia and Hattiesburg Ms has many ice rinks to develop talent.
