Road to the Oscars thread update, post-Golden Globes.
Veep. While I enjoyed the movie she was in, I really think she shines in Veep, which is almost always hysterically funny. Plus she gets to say “fuck”, which is why she said the role attracted her.
You’ve made it this far in life without seeing a single episode of Seinfeld?
What about Christmas Vacation?
Or (briefly) on SNL.
I enjoyed the show a great deal, but I would not mind if they changed the venue or something so that it doesn’t take the winners so long to get to the stage. That part was boring!
Nope, neither. Or SNL. I didn’t even know she was ever on SNL, or in Christmas Vacation.
I agree about it taking too long to get to the stage, especially for the TV people. Something has to change. It’s always been bad but this year it was as if they jammed a bunch of extra tables in the place. At least at the Oscars they sit nominees on or very near the aisle. Even if they’re in one of the artistic categories, or doc or short, even if they’re in the back it doesn’t look like they’re running an obstacle course.
And what is it about nobody being able to grasp the time limit on acceptance speeches? Have something, at least a back-up plan, prepared, just in case you win, and for god sakes have a “play clock” where they can see it. Tell them beforehand the mike shuts off when the play clock hits zero. The music starting and the “Oh no! You’re not playing me off!” defiance is really, really old. I mean stinky old.
It does start flashing ‘Wrap it up’ or something like that on the Teleprompter.
I quite like the show, but was absolutely gobsmacked to learn that Samberg had won a Golden Globe for his acting. His hamminess is actually one of the things that irritates me about a show that i otherwise enjoy.
